Laptops are needed for Assessment and need to brought to school fully charged please.
Literacy:
In Literacy we have continued analysing, comparing, and reflecting on the poetry in 'This is Home, Essential Australian Poems for Children' selected by Jackie French. The students have been writing reflective responses to the poems, looking at tone, theme, and word choice, and how poets use language to impact the reader. Specifically, we have been analysing poems looking at nature and the perception of identity. We have been having fantastic conversations about the importance of being our unique selves and how we can celebrate our differences!
When focusing on nature poems, we look at how poets use personification and imagery in their word choice to engage the reader and paint a picture in our minds. The Level 4 students have even had a practice at creating their own Haiku poems!
In Spelling we have been looking at the base word 'spire/spir' meaning breathe.
This word builder picture below is part of the homework this fortnight. How many words do you know and do you know the meaning too?

Numeracy:
In Math our focus has turned towards the measurement of all things.
Initially the students will look at measuring length and the various conversions associated with millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm), metres (m) and kilometres (km). This will be followed by measuring and gaining an understanding of how we measure perimeter and area of various objects.
Following on from this, students will explore the measuring of mass using grams, kilograms and tonnes; and the measurement of capacity using cubic centimetres and metres. This will also entail an understanding of the various conversions associated between these measurements.
Cooking
Where can you see Maths at home? We saw it in Cooking this week. Measuring, frying, time and lots more.
