Visual Arts
Congratulations to our students who had their amazing art works submitted to the Ellen Jose Reconciliation Awards, primary school division. Their creative art responded to the theme “As a young person, what does reconciliation mean to you?” Students were given choice in creating images on a sports jersey using aboriginal symbols, animals or people that were meaningful to them, along with choosing their mediums.
We are very excited to announce that five of our students have been shortlisted with their artworks to be in an exhibition of the finalists at Bayside City Council Corporate Centre, 76 Royal Ave, Sandringham from 21 May to 24 July 2026. Winners will be announced at the Flag Raising Ceremony on Saturday.
The shortlisted students are: Madeline Spinks 3C along with

Mandarin
We’ve had a smooth and positive start to the term, with students revising previous learning and settling back into classroom routines.
Students across different year levels have been building their confidence in Mandarin through speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities.
Some highlights from our recent learning:
- Grade 1 students have been building their confidence with numbers from 1–100 in Mandarin. They are able to recognise, say, listen to, and write different numbers, and have been applying this knowledge to talk about ages, including writing the ages of their family members
- Grade 2 students have continued learning about body parts while also exploring descriptive vocabulary such as tall, short, fat, and thin. Students practised writing simple descriptive sentences about family members, including describing eyes, noses, ears, height, and body size in Mandarin
- Grade 6 students have been learning to form longer sentences in Mandarin using places, activities, and transportation vocabulary. They practised sentences about travelling to the snow mountains in Japan to take photos, and visiting Europe with family to enjoy food and culture.
你们真棒!You are all amazing!

Physical Education
Level F- 2
To kick off Term 2, our Level F–2 students have been focusing on developing their underarm throwing skills. They have been practising the “Swing, Step, Throw” technique and applying it in fun games such as You Make It, You Take It and Treasure Island.
It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow, and their technique has already shown impressive improvement after just two weeks of practice!
Level 3 & 4
In Levels 3 & 4, students have been participating in a variety of team games, including Hula Hut Relay, soccer, and basketball, with a strong focus on developing positive sportsmanship and teamwork skills.
In preparation for the upcoming Cross Country Carnival in Week 4, students have also been showing great commitment by running laps before each lesson to build their fitness and endurance.
Level 5 and 6
In Levels 5–6, students have also been engaging in a variety of team games, including Hula Hut Relay, soccer, and basketball, continuing to build on their sportsmanship and teamwork skills.
Students have been demonstrating great dedication in the lead-up to the Cross Country Carnival in Week 4 by completing regular laps before each lesson to improve their fitness and endurance.
Looking ahead, Interschool Sport will begin in Week 4. In the meantime, students are participating in weekly practice sessions on Friday mornings and are showing great enthusiasm and readiness for the competition.
Thanks again for an awesome start to Term 2!

Science
Foundation
Our Foundation students have continued their observational astronomy unit, called Look Up! They have looked our magnificent Earth and how it meets our needs. They have then studied day and night and the animals that live there.
Level 1 & 2
Our guardians of the planet have been thinking about whether bugs and frogs are friends or foe. They have been learning that every creature is part of the sacred balance of animals and plants that makes up the environment. Stay tuned for our guest, who will introduce us to the biodiversity in our school gardens.
Level 3 & 4
We know that the universe is huge and that to study the Earth Moon and Sun we have to skrink the scale of these celestial beings. We are also looking at the distance between these bodies.
Level 5 & 6
Our senior scientists have been answering questions about how our eyes perceive light and how we see. They have been observing the properties of the beams of light and studying reflection.
Stay Curious!
