Principal's Report

Dear SEPS Families,
Welcome to this week’s newsletter. You may have noticed that we have changed the release time to a Monday. This was on the back of parents advising that Friday afternoon was not the most ideal time to read it. We are hoping Mondays work well and will encourage more people to read the sections that are relevant to their children, particularly the Connect section for each year level.
I had the pleasure of joining out Year 6 students on their Canberra Camp last week. Our students were excellent representatives for our school and were complimented on their manners and maturity wherever we went. I would like to thank the staff and our parent helpers, Natalie and Faiza, for their care and support throughout the week. It is a big ask to give up time with their own families so that our students can have such a wonderful opportunity. The Canberra trip offers so many unique learning experiences. I am ashamed to admit that I had no idea how convoluted it is to count electoral votes, until our visit to the AEC. A definite highlight was meeting the Governor General and her husband when we stopped by Government House. They were greeting overseas ambassadors during an official ceremony when they both took time out to cross the lawn and say hello to our students. She spoke about her duties, the AFL, her daughter, and then asked if she could take a selfie. Her warmth and down-to-earth approach with the students left a lasting impression on us all.
This week we bid Ms Nocera farewell as she begins her family leave to await the pending birth of her beautiful new baby. I am sure you will all join me in wishing Isabella and her family all the best for the safe arrival of their newest little one. We are currently conducting interviews for a part-time teacher to replace her for the remainder of the year.
As you are possibly aware, we have had a few incidents outside of the school over the past two weeks. I am pleased to advise that our student involved in the accident on Bay Rd is home from the hospital and recovering in a very large plaster cast. We look forward to welcoming him back to school soon. Thank you to everyone who have asked after him. We really do have a very caring community.
Have a wonderful fortnight ahead.
Jane Briffa
