What's happening in our classroom?

Literacy

As part of our literacy learning students will be learning about early Australian explorers and the reasons that motivated them to explore. Through this unit, students will build their understanding of topic-specific vocabulary and practising fluent reading strategies. They will also be developing their comprehension skills by answering both literal and inferential questions, helping them think deeply about what they read and understand ideas beyond the text.

Numeracy

In Mathematics, students are focusing on developing their understanding of fractions. They are practising identifying and representing halves, quarters, thirds and fifths using shapes and collections. Students are also learning to count by halves, quarters and thirds, helping them recognise patterns and build confidence in working with fractional amounts in different contexts.

Inquiry

As part of out Inquiry learning, students will focus will be on how living things depend on each other within an ecosystem. Students will explore how animals obtain their food, learn about producers, consumers and decomposers, and investigate local habitats to see these roles in action. They will research food chains, compare different habitats, and predict what happens when a food source is removed. Students will learn about how to categorise living things into groups such as consumers and producers. We will then explore different types of consumers such as carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.

Well-being

Over the next two weeks we will be working on:

  • understanding stress triggers at home, school or in the yard
  • identifying positive calming strategies that help when we are feeling stressed
  • developing our personalised Ready to Learn plans

Celebration of Learning

Japanese

As part of our Japanese learning, students have been exploring the zodiac and the significance of the Year of the Horse. To bring this to life, they created their own “fire horse” artworks, inspired by traditional Japanese zodiac imagery.

Inquiry - Food Chains

This week, students worked collaboratively in small groups to create food chain posters that demonstrate their understanding of how living things depend on one another within different ecosystems. They carefully identified producers, consumers and decomposers, and showed the flow of energy through their chosen habitats. The task was lots of fun, and the children enjoyed bringing their learning to life in such a creative way!
