What's Happening in Our Classroom?

NAPLAN

Our students are sitting their very first NAPLAN tests in Week 7 & 8. We are so proud of all their efforts in preparation for this and know that these tests can bring upon many different emotions. Although the scores on the tests will tell you how they performed on that day, they do not tell you everything. Your children are beyond amazing and we feel so incredibly lucky to be teaching such inspiring, kind, thoughtful young people.

Literacy

As we dive further into our Australian adventure with 'Off We Go Around Australia' by Roland Harvey, students will build their vocabulary and grammar knowledge by exploring different types of nouns and verbs, while practising sentence writing using because, but and so. Our upcoming vocabulary words include creaky, discovered, borrowed, bungle, collect, rare, demonstration and expedition.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we are continuing to explore how numbers can be put together and taken apart, helping students understand the connection between addition and subtraction. Students are practising part–part–whole concepts, investigating fact families and using number lines to help visualise how addition and subtraction work together. They are also strengthening their recall of number facts to 20 and developing faster, more efficient mental strategies. We will also be including some NAPLAN numeracy practice sessions to help build familiarity and confidence.

Wellbeing

We are continuing to learn about strategies to help manage stress and support positive emotional wellbeing. We are also eagerly awaiting the performance of The Protectors by Brainstorm Productions on Tuesday 10th March. This engaging theatre-in-education program will provide students with practical strategies for bullying prevention, online safety, social skills and emotion regulation, empowering them to stand up to bullying, seek help and protect themselves and others both at school and online.

Science

In Science, we are exploring the exciting world of heat and how it travels around us! Students will discover how heat moves from one object to another through conduction, convection and radiation, and investigate where heat actually goes as it transfers. We will be using fun investigations to help bring these ideas to life.

Celebration of Learning

Wellbeing

Our Grade 3 students have been busy broadening their emotional literacy by creating their very own “Wellbeing Monsters”! Students coloured their monsters based on how they might feel in different scenarios and added words to describe the emotions their monsters could be experiencing. They have also been doing a fantastic job using their Ready to Learn scales—tracking, communicating and responding to their emotions, and using calming or energising strategies to help them get themselves back to being ready to learn.

Kitchen Garden

Our Kitchen Garden sessions have been full of busy hands and happy helpers! Students tended to the gardens and chickens, and also cooked up a storm using fresh ingredients
