What is coming up in the next fortnight:
Literacy:
In Little Learners, we are looking at '-y', 'igh', and 'ie' and 'oa'. We are learning the golden rules for when to use these sounds to read and to spell. Remember to log into to the Little Learners app to read these books at home. It really helps your child become fluent if they read the book many times.
In Writing, we will be continuing learning about continents, countries and oceans. The year 1s have been so enthusiastic learning about the countries, their landmarks, and native animals.
We are so excited about our excursion next week, we have been familiarising ourselves with The Moonlit Sanctuary's map and animals. We have been talking about how we can be respectful to the animals there. Please make sure you have read the letter about what to wear and bring. (See at the bottom of this newsletter)
Numeracy:
In Maths, we have continued to learn how to count forwards and backwards 0-120, and are learning the place value of numbers up to 3 digits. We have been using lots of cool materials in our learning, such as, tens frames, 100 charts, popsicle sticks for bundling, and MAB blocks.
Wellbeing:
We have been looking at what a good friend looks like and acts like, looking at ways we can use resilience to overcome moments that might upset us.
Homework:
Earlier in the week, we sent home your Little Learners login codes, a reading log, and instructions. If you have not received these, please have a look in your child's bag. If it isn't there please contact your child's teacher.
It has been another great fortnight of learning. Thanks for all your support.
Kind regards from the Grade One Team.
Moonlit Sanctuary
We are all getting very excited for our wonderful excursion to Moonlit Sanctuary on Wednesday 11th March! We will be leaving at 9:30 and returning at 2:30.
Here is some information about our exciting day:
Clothing: All students are expected to wear full school uniform and close-toed shoes (gumboots allowed) no sandals or slip on shoes please. If the weather is not looking great, please have raincoats and warm clothing also (all clearly named). Umbrellas cannot be taken on the excursion.
Lunches: Please place your child's snack, fruit, lunch and drink bottle in a clearly labelled small bag. These will be placed into a class tub. We will have scheduled time to eat so please ensure all containers are named and nude food where possible. All children must have a named refillable water bottle (no juice/cordial). We will not be taking school bags on the excursion. (They are too big and heavy)
Finally, please ensure that your child is at school on time as we will need to be on the buses as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Kind Regards,
The Grade One team
