Literacy
We have now finished learning our Stage 1 sounds (Yellow) and are beginning our Stage 2 sounds (Red). Students have been practising recording words and reading short decodable sentences such as “The cat sat.” and “I am Sam.”
The children are very excited to be taking home their first decodable texts. We encourage families to access additional books through the Little Learners Love Literacy online platform to support reading at home. QR codes have been sent home in the Boomerang book to make this easy to access.
| Letters/words covered so far: | Future letters/words |

Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have been learning all about numbers to 5. Throughout our lessons, students have been:
- Counting forwards and backwards
- Adding one more to a number
- Making collections on a five frame
- Matching objects to their numerals
- Subitising numbers
For our Applied Mathematics sessions, we have been discussing the events in our day and placing them in order. For example:
First, we arrive at school.
Next, we unpack our bags and get ready for learning.
Then, we begin our morning activities.

Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, we have been exploring different emotions and discussing times when we have experienced these feelings in our own lives. Students drew pictures to represent a time they felt a particular emotion and shared their experiences with the class. We also played engaging games that involved acting out different emotions, helping students to recognise and better understand how feelings can be expressed.
Reminders
Satchels
Students have received their flashcards, Boomerang Book, and a decodable reader to support their reading at home. Please ensure your child’s satchel is returned to school each day. Please remember to initial your child's nights of reading on the green sheet provided.
There is a QR code inside your child’s Boomerang Book which allows you to access Little Learners Love Literacy books online for additional reading practice at home.
Library
Please send a named bag with your child on their library day so they can bring a book home to enjoy. Students have received a red material bag from their teacher which would make a great library bag!
Library Times:
Prep C Mondays
Prep A, B , D, E Thursdays
Shoelaces
We have noticed there are many children who come to school with laces. If they can't tie their laces, it is recommended they have velcro shoes. Here is a video to assist with learning to tie laces.

Independence
Starting formal schooling provides an excellent opportunity to encourage your children to make their own choices and operate independently within the school community. If you are finding you still need to assist your child entering the classroom we encourage you to let your child know you will be saying goodbye to them at the door. Students settle very quickly into the morning routine, however, when the class is crowded with parents it can make the start of your child’s day unsettled. We have been impressed to see so many children walking into the classroom independently.
Tips: Talk to your child the night before and have a plan eg; one hug, one goodbye and let your child know you will say goodbye at the door. Most importantly, stick to the plan. Please be assured that your child does settle quickly otherwise we would let you know.
Toileting Before School
Please remind your child to use the toilet before school so that their learning is not interrupted in the morning session.
Spare Clothes
Please ensure your child has a change of clothes, including socks, in their bag.
Buddies Activity
On Thursday, the Foundation students and Grade 6 Buddies came together for a fun and creative activity. Each pair worked together to make a butterfly, with each student creating one half of the wings. It was a wonderful bonding experience and a great opportunity for students to collaborate and connect across year levels.
