A massive thank you to all our wonderful families who joined us for the SFX Family Fun Picnic yesterday! It was truly heart warming to see our community come together, sharing laughs and enjoying such a vibrant atmosphere.

This week, our students delved even deeper into the world of sound stories. Working in pairs, they chose a narrative and experimented with creating custom sound effects and background audio to add more impact and emotion to their storytelling.
From the rhythmic thud of footsteps and the sudden Bang! Crash! of an action scene, to the delicate sound of wings flapping or the gentle pitter-patter of rain, the creativity was flowing. Students used their iPads and Chrome Music Lab to digitally compose and layer these sounds, bringing their stories to life in a whole new way!

In Year 2 Literacy... The students have been diving deep into the mechanics of language! We have been exploring Trigraphs (three letters that make one sound) specifically focusing on the /air/ sound. To add detail to our writing, we’ve been practicing using adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions to show where and when things happen. Most excitingly, the students have begun exploring Fables and are now starting to craft their very own original tales!
In Year 1 Literacy... Our Year 1s have been busy expanding their vocabulary and phonics skills. We’ve been learning about compound words, two-syllable words, and nouns, while focusing on the /ay/ sound (including its different spellings like ai and ay). The students have also stepped into the world of Fables, where they are practicing expanding simple sentences by using prepositions to add more detail to their stories.
In Year 1 Maths...
Our Year 1 students have been busy building a strong foundation in Place Value. We’ve been exploring 2-digit numbers by comparing, ordering, and physically building them using Base Ten blocks. This week, we’ve taken an exciting next step and have just started exploring the world of Addition and Subtraction!
In Year 2 Maths...
The Year 2 students have been diving deeper into Addition and Subtraction by using various materials to represent numbers. A highlight has been using icy pole sticks bundled in groups of 10 to visualize 2-digit numbers. We’ve also been mastering different strategies to "bridge to 10," using tools like ten frames and number lines.
In Ed and Faith, we have been exploring the Sacrament of Baptism and the importance of Community. The children were captivated by personal stories this week, and we give a special thank you to Harper for sharing her Baptism pieces and to Ms. Kayla for showing us photos of her own Baptism as an adult. These stories sparked wonderful classroom discussions as the children shared their own memories and understandings of this special milestone.

Building on this sense of belonging, we have also been exploring the role of community volunteers. Together, we brainstormed ways to help others at a School, Parish, and community level without needing to give money. By linking our discussions to our Scripture focus—Jesus Feeds the 5,000—we reflected on how our own small, positive actions can make a massive difference in the lives of those around us.
