Year Level Captain's Report

Luka, our recently elected 2026 Year 7 Captain, prepared and delivered the following speech at our whole school assembly on Monday. Congratulations, Luka.
Hi everyone, I’m Luka. While I’ve met a few of you, most of you haven't really gotten to know me. I'm standing here today because I’d really like to get to know all of you, and hopefully, represent you as your Year 7 Leader.
It's crazy to think that about two weeks ago, we were all walking through the gates for the very first time. Let's be honest, it’s been a massive leap coming from primary school to here. Everything is different. The campus is huge, the schedule is busy, and there are hundreds of new faces.
I’ll admit, I was pretty nervous on that first day, and I think a lot of us felt a bit of that. But the best thing I’ve seen so far is how well everyone is already getting to know their way around.
Since we've been here, I've realised how important it is to remember the start of this journey. These first few weeks are a one-time experience. I want to help us all remember these moments, the new friendships and the challenges we’ve already faced. Even though we had no clue what was going on, every one of us at least tried to follow the CORE values.
I want to help everyone feel confident as we start this journey together. Whether it’s in the classroom or out here, I want to be someone who makes sure everyone feels supported. I don't think being a leader is about having a badge or a special position. For me, it's just about how we treat each other and the difference we can make by looking out for one another.
I’m running because I want to make sure your ideas are actually heard. I believe your feedback is the best tool we have to make our time here even better. I want to be the person who listens and makes sure those thoughts get passed on to the teachers and other student leaders.
So, to sum it all up—I’m not here for a badge, I’m here to make this growing community more natural for all of you. My goal is to be a reliable voice for our year level and to make sure these first memories of high school are great for everyone.
If you’ve got a suggestion, or even if you just want to get a second opinion on something, come find me. I’m here for whatever you need. I am ready to be a supportive leader for Year 7. My name is Luka, and I’d be honoured to represent you. Thank you for listening.
Luka O
Year 7 Captain
