Andy Griffiths appointed as national ambassador for Australian children’s literature

Our much-loved children's author Andy Griffiths turns a new page as the Australian Children’s Laureate for 2026-2027.

The Children’s Laureate is a dedicated advocate for reading and Australian children’s literature. Their role is to champion important issues affecting the entire industry, including creators, reading advocates, educators, librarians, booksellers and publishers.

Every Laureate has a mission for their two-year term. Griffith’s mission statement for 2026 and 2027 is ‘Reading is an Adventure’.

Students can find a wide collection of Andy Griffith’s books in our library, including his latest book – ‘You & Me and the Peanut Butter Beast’ and all the books in his famous Treehouse series. Congratulations Andy!

The Flip Side: A Graphic Novel by Jason Walz is a supernatural survival story about friendship, fate, and what happens when you try to flip your luck—literally. The novel is full of emotion, unravelling threads of grief and depression. With expressive artwork, it’s an easy read that will guide students to think and reflect.

Roadmasters by Dave Morley shifts gears into the world of cars, exploring 150 vehicles that changed history through innovation, design, speed, and cultural impact—it’s basically a greatest-hits album of automotive legends.

Sheltered by Melody Horrell - Stories of rescue animals and the people who were saved by them - explores the power of love between people and their adopted animals. Real-life and heartfelt, these stories showcase the deep bonds forged between rescue animals, whether they be dogs, cats, ferrets, horses, rabbits or donkeys, and the people who give them a second chance

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and The Six Most Important Decisions You’ll Ever Make by Sean Covey are packed with practical advice for students about confidence, friendships, goals, relationships, and making smart life choices—without sounding preachy.

Hamlet Is Not OK by R.A. Spratt delivers relatable chaos, proving that school life can be dramatic in the best (and worst) ways. The book is a modern retelling of Shakespeare's classic play, where the 15-year-old protagonist Selby finds herself transported into the world of Hamlet, navigating its complexities with humour and insight.

And Trash by Andy Mulligan is a fast-paced adventure set in a world of poverty and corruption, where three boys stumble upon a mystery bag in trash that could change their lives forever.

Together, these books offer laughs, life lessons, real-world inspiration, and edge-of-your-seat storytelling - so students whatever you’re in the mood for, there’s a story here ready for loan in our library.
