REFLECTION

Father's Day is this Sunday and for many the current pandemic restrictions will keep them apart from their fathers, grandfathers, great grandfathers, step fathers, uncles, godfathers.  Still it is important to celebrate this special day.  We are fortunate that today we are able to keep in touch by letter, phone and even video calls which help a little in reducing the distance between us all.  Father's Day this year is especially important as it is the Year of St Joseph, one of the most well known fathers.  God calls men to be fathers, both in the birth of their own children, but also in the role they play in loving, supporting and guiding others.   This year let us thank all of  our fathers and wish them love on this Father's Day, no matter where they are.

A FATHER'S DAY PRAYER

GOD OUR FATHER, WE GIVE YOU THANKS AND PRAISE FOR FATHERS YOUNG AND OLD.

WE PRAY FOR YOUNG FATHERS, NEWLY EMBRACING THEIR VOCATION; MAY THEY FIND COURAGE AND PERSEVERANCE TO BALANCE WORK, FAMILY AND FAITH IN JOY AND SACRIFICE.

WE PRAY FOR OUR OWN FATHERS AROUND THE WORLD WHOSE CHILDREN ARE LOST OR SUFFERING; MAY THEY KNOW THAT THE GOD OF COMPASSION WALKS WITH THEM IN THEIR SORROW.

WE PRAY FOR MEN WHO ARE NOT FATHERS BUT STILL MENTOR AND GUIDE US WITH FATHERLY LOVE AND ADVICE.

WE REMEMBER FATHERS, GRANDFATHER, AND GREAT GRANDFATHERS WHO ARE NO LONGER WITH US BUT WHO LIVE FOREVER IN OUR MEMORY AND NOURISH US WITH THEIR LOVE.

Amen
