Newsletter is BACK!!

The Newsletter has returned! We look forward to sharing monthly updates through our newsletter. As we come to the end of Term 2 we have seen many challenges facing staff and students in particular the flu season that has hit our community quite hard. This however has not stopped us from providing so many fun learning opportunities for our students. Students have settled smoothly into the term and have reengaged energetically into their learning.

Excursions and Incursions

Our students have had a large variety of learning experiences this term including Parliament House, Henny Penny – Chick Program, ACMI and the Arts Centre excursion, Melbourne Immigration Museum, NGV excursion, Melbourne Museum and a wide range of incursions including AUSDance, Dance Club, Taekwondo and AFL. The staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that we are giving our students the very best opportunity to reengage with their learning through multiple experiences.

Assembly

The fortnightly assemblies were launched with students on Friday of Week 4 and they have already proven to be a great success! We will be conducting our assemblies FORTNIGHTLY – Even Weeks, students will meet their teachers under the hayshed ready for a short assembly. The assembly will incorporate student awards, a year level share, behaviour focus and any reminders/announcements. We welcome parents, guardians and carers to join these assemblies as well. We look forward to this very exciting initiative, building further connections and a positive school culture.

NAPLAN

We would like to acknowledge the efforts of all students in Years 3 and 5, who participated in NAPLAN this year, and commend them for their positive attitude during an overall successful NAPLAN week. It was the first time that Debney Meadows PS conducted the NAPLAN tests online and the students did incredibly well throughout the whole process.

Reconciliation Week 2022

From the 27 May until 3 June it is National Reconciliation Week! This is a special week where we celebrate Indigenous history, achievements and culture in Australia and an opportunity to foster reconciliation, conversation and engagement.

This year's theme is "Be Brave. Make Change." which encourages all Australians to Be Brave in our daily actions where we live, work, play and socialise in order to Make Change for the benefit of all Australians. Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

National Sorry Day

Every 26 May, National Sorry Day reminds Australians to remember the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout history. It is a reminder of the forceful removal of Indigenous children from their families and communities in the 20th century that led to the Stolen Generations. Debney Meadows Primary School acknowledges the Stolen Generations and the historical and ongoing impact of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. National Sorry Day provides an important opportunity to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations survivors and their families and to reflect on the role we must all play in the healing process.

Prep 2023 Enrolments

Debney Meadows Primary School is continuing to accept enrolments for Prep 2023. School tours run regularly each fortnight for prospective families who are interested in enrolling their child/ren to our school. Every student enrolled for 2023 can participate in the FREE First Steps School Readiness Program from 9:15am-10:30am every Wednesday.

Big Child Care

Did you know that Debney Meadows Primary School offers an offsite OSCH service? Debney Meadows Primary School is so excited to announce that from Term 2 we will be partnering with Big Childcare Flemington to offer an Out of School Hours Care Program (OSCH). We will have a fully staffed Walking School Bus that will collect and take students to and from OSHC and DMPS. Reminder - Pupil Free Day Wednesday 22nd June

Please be advised that Debney Meadows Primary School will be having a staff Professional Practice Day on Wednesday 22nd June. This will be a pupil free day for all students so please ensure that you make alternative arrangements. Staff are entitled to Professional Practice Days (PPDs) in accordance with the Victorian Government Schools Agreement so that they may focus on the improved delivery of high-quality teaching and learning. The Department of Education and Training (DET) has approved schools to conduct pupil free professional practice days this term.

Vaccination Hub (Include Flyer)

As we approach winter, it’s as important as ever for children to be vaccinated to help them stay healthy, and protect their families and communities.

Onsite COVID-19 vaccination clinics are being held at schools in Moonee Valley over the next few weeks. All community members of any age are welcome to receive a COVID-19 vaccination as well as Flu Shots at the clinics, and can walk in with no appointment required.

Last Day Term 2

Just a reminder that the last day for Term 2 is Friday 24th June. Students will finish at 1:45pm. Please make sure you have made arrangements to have your child collected at the earlier time.
