Northern Metro Regional Swimming Carnival ~ Tuesday 19 March
Huge congratulation to some of our very talented swimmers who competed at the Northern Metro Regional Swimming Carnival last Tuesday 19 March at WaterMarc. It was a very big accomplishment for each of these athletes, marking personal bests in many areas. To put things into perspective, each of these children trialled to make the school swim team. They needed to place in the top two at the Montmorency District Carnival to progress to Banyule Division. At Division, they needed to place first to progress to Regional. And at Regional, they needed to place first to advance to the State Finals. And, one student did just that - Josh Appleton finished first in the Breaststroke, qualifying to compete at the State Finals on April 24th! What these students have accomplished is nothing short of incredible as they balance early morning training sessions, school, friendships and other sports. At Regionals, they all walked away with medals and their smiles say it all. Again, huge congratulations for a tremendous effort, we are so very proud of you!
Representing St Francis Xavier were Joshua Appleton, Henry Hamilton, Tommy Henderson, Luke Galgano and Charlie Howes
Boys Medley (Josh, Tom, Henry, Luke) - Bronze
11 Girls Breaststroke (Charlie) - Bronze
12 Boys Freestyle (Josh) - Silver
12 Boys Breaststroke (Josh) - Gold
Cross Country Carnival & Team Trials
Congratulations to all of the Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 students who participated in our SFX Cross Country Running Carnival & Team Trials today, Friday 29th March at Petrie Park. Our senior students have been preparing both physically and mentally for this challenge over the past four weeks in H&PE, with many of them taking up training opportunities each morning at Running Club. And they have responded beautifully. What a tremendous effort by everyone to work towards achieving their personal goals and implementing practiced strategies. It is an absolute pleasure to see such determination, enthusiasm, positive ‘can do’ attitudes and support of each other. Thank you also to the wonderful parent volunteers who helped to make this event possible. Your support is very much appreciated.
The finishing results will determine which students will represent SFX at the Montmorency District Cross Country event early next term. Once the team is finalised, we will look to continue to offer training opportunities for our Cross Country Team. We are putting out a call for any parents who are runners and would like to assist. If you can offer up an hour any weekday morning - we would LOVE to hear from you! Please email Mrs Hunter on chunter@sfxmontmorency.catholic.edu.au if you are available.
Twilight Sport - Thursday 4th April, 2019
Our Annual Twilight Sports event has been planned for Thursday 4th of April, 5:00-7:30pm and will be held once again at Petrie Park. This is a whole school community event and we encourage parents, grandparents and siblings to come along. The classes have commenced preparing for this enjoyable school event, which will focus on fun, team-spirit and participation and include a number of rotational activities, team games and running sprints. Our evening will still kicks off with an opening ceremony, led by our Year Sixes. The sprint races, always a highlight, will be incorporated into the rotational activities for every level.
Families are invited to arrive at Petrie Park Oval from 5:00pm for leisurely family picnic time. For your convenience, our fantastic SFX Parents Association will be again running their delicious barbeque, providing food and cold drinks for sale (please note that glass bottles are not permitted on the oval). On this evening, children are encouraged to wear their green school shorts and a tee-shirt, hat and ribbons in their House colours. Please refer to the coming CareMonkey message for further, more specific information.
