CLASSROOM CLIPPINGS

Year Five News
The Year Five students have had a wonderful start to the year and all students have settled well into the routines and expectations of being a Senior School student. All students have warmly welcomed Miss Alissa Bernardi to our school and to our year level. In February the students enjoyed the Swimming Program at Watermarc, followed by the opportunity to practise water safety skills at Brighton Beach.
Literature Circles
Next term the Year Fives will begin Literature Circles as part of the Reading program. Students will have a novel to read and explore and will take part in weekly meetings to discuss various aspects and themes within the novel. This term we have been preparing for the work involved in Literature Circles, by introducing the students to the various roles that they will explore whilst reading the book. These photos are some examples of one of the Literature Circle Roles called ‘Open Mind Portrait’.
Fire Carriers
Four students from Year 5 have been chosen to be the 2019 Fire Carriers. We congratulate Georgie Conlin, Lachlan Gates, Hannah Kulken and Billy Rheinberger on this achievement and wish them all the best in this role for 2019. Fire Carriers stand for ‘Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education’. Two weeks ago the Fire Carriers attended a Professional Learning day for their role, at the Melbourne Museum. Among their favourite activities on the day were learning about indigenous plants and their uses and benefits for us and exploring many of the cultural artefacts on display. One of the most powerful lessons that the Fire Carriers learnt was ‘deep listening is not only with our ears but with our hearts and minds.’
Year 5 Level Mass
A reminder to all parents that on Thursday 4th April we will be celebrating our year level Mass together. This will be held in the church as part of the normal Parish mass at 9:10am. Everyone is welcome, please join us.
