DISCOVERY CENTRE

Minecraft has hit the Discovery Centre.  We have a brand new display with lots and lots of Minecraft books.  Many students are keen Minecraft fans and have loaned us items to add to the display.  In addition our keen Lego team have made some models, including the Creeper to complete our display.  To coincide with this we have had lunchtime Minecraft activities from making and decorating a mud block to a drawing competition. Lots of fun for all.

Guest Author Visit

Author and illustrator Anna Ciddor is coming to our school on Tuesday 2nd April, to talk to our Year 4, 5 and 6 students. Anna has written over 50 books during her 30 years as a published writer. She will be talking to the students about her two latest titles “The house with two front doors” and “52 Mondays”, which are also on sale for $15.00 each, either prior to or at Anna’s presentation.  A letter/order form has been sent home to students to this effect. We have been looking at Anna’s books during DC lessons, and enjoyed going back in time to see how families lived both in Poland during the 1920’s, and in Australia in the 1960’s.

In addition she will also be running a writing competition, which is optional for students to enter. Anna will talk about this during her visit.  She is being very generous and even supplying the prizes.

Any parents or grandparents are welcome to join us in the hall for the presentation on Tuesday 2nd April, from 12.30-1.30pm.

 Book of the Week

Our last two books of the week, have been non-fiction titles (for a change). “Robotpedia”  by Brenna Moloney and “Stories for boys who dare to be different 2” by Ben Brooks.

“Robotpedia” is an encyclopedic guide to robotics, and takes students through the evolution of robotic technology and gives a peek into the robotic future, and ties in with our STEM learning.

The second book in the series “Stories for boys who dare to be different” tells more true tales of amazing boys, who found the courage to be themselves and achieve something remarkable at the same time.

Happy reading,

Mrs. Johnson

Physical Education - Year One

What a difference a year makes!

Our beautiful Year One students have grown so much over the past year. This term we have progressed through a variety of understandings, games, activities and skills over a short period of time. We have revisited our PBS values in the H&PE classroom, our boundaries and teacher expectations. Each week, we run a few laps and, through discussion, add to our understanding of keeping ourselves fit and healthy. We have worked through a variety of known and new movement and cooperative games including: ‘Tricky Tiggy’, ‘Bean Bag Tiggy’, ‘Bob-down Tiggy’, ‘Fruit Salad’. Mid-term we were visited by the talented Fireball Tennis coaches Abbey, Daniel and Marlino, who ran a really fun introduction to tennis clinics for each of our Year One classes. Who knew that pirates, rockets and ‘battleship’ were all fun ways to play tennis! This has also been a wonderful introduction to the Fundamental Motor Skill (FMS), the ‘forehand strike’ which we will continue to explore with a range of equipment. We also took some time out to practice our sprinting skills in preparation for Twilight Sport at the end of the term. These Year Ones are off and running ~ they are always keen for a running race!
