CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

What a ride! Our Year 12 cohort has officially graduated, six years of school together travelling up the ranks from being in Year 7 and having classes in A Block to finishing on level three of the incredible Pitsa Binnion Senior Centre. We have enjoyed two days of celebrations with absolute jam-packed excitement for our cohort. The Year 12s will never forget rocking up to school on dress up day in some of the best costumes the school has ever seen, with high fives from everyone in the hallways. Just 24 hours later there were tears and hugs as we officially finished our journey at McKinnon.

Another three hours later, our graduates arrived at Crown for the Valedictory where we became McKinnon alumni and spent one more night with our beloved parents, teachers, and peers before the long road ahead of exam preparation. What an absolute pleasure it has been to be a part of the McKinnon community, it truly is one of a kind. So many memories were made at this beautiful place that will be with us forever.

The Year 12s now have our eyes on the prize, with the English exam only a few days away it is time to put our heads down and work hard. On behalf of the 2023 Year 12 cohort I would just like to thank all the staff for their unwavering support over the last six years. You have not only helped us be successful with our studies but also successful and happy people. As we farewell McKinnon, we thank every single person who has helped us along the way. We will do our very best to make you proud.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

Over at the East Campus, the whole campus is bustling with students who are anticipating the final term of the year. Despite it being the very start of Term 4, there has already been plenty happening around the campus. Over the last two weeks, the Year 9 Geography classes have undertaken fieldwork to the South Melbourne Market where they’ve been given the opportunity to learn more about interconnections both nationally and internationally.

On the other hand, our Year 8s have been getting their suitcases packed and ready for Year 8 camp which began on Wednesday 18 October. The Year 8 students will be travelling to Walhalla for the Kummargee - Rise Up program and they will be spending the rest of their time at the campsite, enjoying all the activities there.

Furthermore, our music students in both Years 8 and 9 have been a part of the Big Band Bash and showcased their incredible musical talents during this event. I would like to congratulate everyone who was a part of this event.

In the coming weeks there will be plenty of events happening around the campus such as a Pop-Up Crepes Stall on Wednesday 1 November (organised by the East Campus Languages Society) and the Volleyball Australian Schools Cup fundraiser happening on the Thursday 2 November. With an upcoming busy term, I ask everyone to ensure that they are staying up to date with everything that’s happening.

I wish everyone a successful and enjoyable Term 4 and the best of luck for all upcoming tests and exams.
