PERFORMING ARTS

It has been fantastic to watch the development of the junior and intermediate performance students over the last few weeks in the Performing Arts area. Many students are presenting for AMEB and VCE performance exams and we could not be any prouder of what they are achieving.

CITIZENSHIP PERFORMANCE

The last City of Glen Eira Citizenship Ceremony was held on Wednesday 11 October at the Glen Eira Town Hall where as it so happened quite a few of our McKinnon families gained their citizenships. More singers were required and Olivia Capurro-Martinez (Year 10) was invited to sing 'I Am Australian' and the National Anthem on the stage during the ceremony which she did very well. Coincidentally her family was receiving their citizenship as well! It was a memorable occasion for everyone and a very special one for Olivia and her family.

BIG BAND BASH

Thursday 12 October saw the celebration of the school's big bands - the pumping Junior, the fantastic Intermediate, and the sensational Senior Stage Bands. There was a great buzz in the air as all bands performed lively sets of music, interspersed with the fantastic Year 12 Band and the Saxophone Quartet. Thank you to Dmitry Serebrianik for his organisation of this event, and for his development of both the Junior and Senior Stage Bands, to Stuart Byrne for his development of the Intermediate Stage Band, and to Martin West for his fantastic work with the Saxophone Quartet. Thank you to Andrew Albanis, James Morrissey and Colleen Wurfel for their work with the groups and with the staging on the night.

JUNIOR CONCERT BAND FESTIVAL

McKinnon Secondary College hosted the SEVR Junior Concert Band Festival on Tuesday 17 October in the Hall on the main campus. Over 120 students from four regional schools came together to work with the fantastic clinician Emily Furlong, to work on their sight reading, ensemble and performing skills.

By the end of the day the students had worked incredibly hard to bring three pieces to performance standard, which were then recorded and sent out for the students to have as a memento of the day.

BANDS ON THE BLUE

Congratulations to Rhapsody Borrirak (Year 9), Eran Goldin (Year 9) and Sapphire Thomas-Sam (Year 9), who performed at the East Campus Bands on the Blue during lunch on Friday 20 October. The Year 9 students demonstrated a strong sense of musicianship and worked hard to produce a fantastic overall sound that wowed the gathered crowd.

We would like to thank the MAV team at McKinnon who work incredibly hard to help all the Performing Arts students and staff look and sound fantastic in each and every performance we undertake.
