Anchorage House News

Golf

Golf is the craze of the moment at Anchorage House, with lots of boys trying their hand with the club on the ovals behind the boarding house. We have a few kits owned by different boys and the skills are slowly improving. Most of them were bought for a bargain at the tip shop on one of our many visits there. It doesn’t sound like much of an outing, I know, but there is tremendous excitement when a trip is planned.

Study

I have been very happy with the way most of the Anchorage boys have dedicated themselves to their study of late. Well done to Jye Trundle for setting himself the goal of catching up with his class after his recent arrival to GSG. We’re seeing a very good effort there.

The Year Eight boys worked well in small group settings over the past week or so. They have been learning how to take effective notes, which will then be used to write an in-class essay. There was plenty of sharing ideas as to the best way to set them out.

We also worked on staying focused during these sessions, as it is all too easy for constructive conversations to slip into social chat. This is a message that is delivered regularly during prep.

National Boarding Week

It was great to see the way Anchorage House got involved with National Boarding Week events. The Amazing Race was a highlight for us. The clincher was the check-point where someone had to hit a rubber ball 60 metres and it had to be caught by the rest of the team. Harrison Dolan hit it perfectly to Hamish Medway, who took a juggling catch on the third try. This challenge took about 20 minutes for other houses to complete. The boys enjoyed their reward of a wood-fired pizza (absolutely no bias!).
