DIRECTOR OF STUDENTS REPORT

Student Leadership

This week the College proudly presented badges to the 2021 College Leadership team at the official induction ceremony. The Riverina Anglican College is committed to the ongoing development and fostering of leadership skills and attributes in all of our students. Our Mission is to prepare young people for life in the rapidly changing world that God has given us, equipping them to be courageous, constructive, creative and compassionate citizens with the will to serve.

Equipping young minds to lead in their communities, both locally and internationally is one of the pillars of quality education in the 21st Century. The Riverina Anglican College is dedicated to providing an ‘Education for Life’ and has incorporated a specific focus on leadership with other essential tenets of our modern society: democracy, adventure, environmental awareness, intercultural connectedness and service.

Student leadership that fosters connectedness to the College and a positive College climate are integral in supporting academic performance, ethics, values and faith development. The Riverina Anglican College works hard to enhance these relationships by providing opportunities for student leadership and recognising and encouraging student contributions to the College.

In education parlance, this is called student voice and it is an activation point for whole school improvement. Activating student voice and broadening student leadership has been a high priority at The Riverina Anglican College since Mr Humble began his tenure as Principal in 2017. Fostering a culture of collaboration ensures mutual respect between staff, families and students and enhances our ability to create a College environment which is collaborative, engaging and invigorating.

It is important to note that the College Student Well-being Program provides all students with leadership training and skills development and there are a growing number of opportunities to experience positions of responsibility, in both informal and formal capacities. At The Riverina Anglican College, every student is encouraged to identify and embrace opportunities to lead through their decision making, actions and language.

In the coming weeks, the College will turn its focus to the election of College Prefects for 2021. I would like to thank the current College Prefects for their leadership in 2020 and encourage them to reflect on their experiences from this year and hope they have gained valuable insights into the trials and triumphs of leadership.
