COLLEGE NEWS

Welcome

Welcome to the 15th edition of the College Newsletter, and the first edition for Term 4.

This week saw the induction of the 2020-2021 Student Leaders for 2021 and the commencement of the HSC Exams for Year 12 students.

2020-2021 Student Leadership Induction Service

On Monday, during the Principal's Assembly, our 2021 Student Leaders were inducted. We welcome this team who will develop a vibrant and mature culture at our College. Each of these leaders are outstanding young men and women in all regards.

Congratulations on your induction to the 2021 Student Leadership team!

Further details can be found on the Principal's Report page.

Junior School Examinations

The Junior examination timetable will commence on Monday 2nd November and will continue through till Friday 6th November. Copies of the timetables have been emailed to Parents and Carers.

Students can access their timetable through their year group Google classroom, the timetables can also be found on the College website here

Students will have normal classes when they do not have an exam. Homework and assessments will be suspended for this time period as it is expected students will be focused on exam preparation. Some exams will be held during a class that is not for that subject, this is to ensure all students sit subject exams at the same time.

English, Mathematics and Science exams (and HSIE for Year 10) will be held in the Gym to help familiarise students with the setting and protocols of a formal examination venue. Junior exams are also an opportunity for students to begin developing time management and study techniques that work for them.

All students are encouraged to talk with their subject and homeroom teachers for information regarding the content that will be examined and suggestions for study techniques.

Students must follow the Illness and Misadventure process if they are unable to attend an exam. Information of the process along with an Illness and Misadventure Application Form was sent out with the timetables and can also be found underneath the parent portal on the College website here

Students will still have sport during their designated afternoon and can still wear their sports uniform on that day.

If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me via email.

Enterprising Girls Workshop

Over the last two days, girls in Years 7-10 have participated in the Academy for Enterprising Girls.

The girls developed an enterprise and pitched an idea to a panel of experts. Over the two days they worked hard to identify a problem, research, survey, developed and refined a solution.

The panel of experts zoom called us and we watched pitches from other schools in the area.

In their teams they came up with:

  • Juvenile Justice Education Program
  • A fitness in exchange for Wifi app
  • Cyber Security Training program

Bronze Kayaking Trip

A few months ago we didn’t think a Qualifying Bronze trip would be possible, but here we

are!

The Year Nine OED class spent last Thursday and Friday paddling the Murrumbidgee River from Oura Beach to Wagga Beach. They were assessed on their ability to paddle and maneuver a craft, perform a self rescue, demonstrate the subject ethos, navigation, and camp catering.

All of the students were keen to participate and when times got tough, it was nice to see

them working as a group to get to the finish line.

Year 12, please see information from NESA regarding procedures for the HSC Examinations under COVID- 19 conditions, as well as support materials for yourself and your parents around mental and physical wellbeing.

Attention Parents/Guardians and students of Year 12

With the current care being taken due to the COVID-19 pandemic,  NESA have instigated some very strict rules to ensure the safety of all students, presiding officers and examination supervisors.

Please take the time to read and ensure students adhere to the following:

  • Students will need to arrive 20 minutes before the examination so supervisors can temperature test students, confirm they have not been asked to self isolate by NSW Health, and do not have any flu- like symptoms and sanitize their hands.
  • Students should not attend the examination if they have flu-like symptoms ( fever, cough, sore/scratchy throat, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell), are awaiting a COVID test result, have been directed to self isolate by NSW Health or have tested positive to COVID 19.
  • If students have a known illness that has similar symptoms to the flu e.g. hay fever, they require a  medical certificate from their doctor which should be provided to the school. They are also encouraged to ensure they are up to date with their medication to minimise their symptoms.
  • Students displaying flu-like symptoms may be asked to leave the examination and asked to be tested for COVID-19. They will only be able to return to the examination centre once a negative test result has been received.
