PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Leadership Induction Service

On Monday 19th,  I had the honour and privilege of hosting the 2021 Leadership Induction Service. It was a wonderful event and was very well supported by our College Community and friends. The 2021 Leaders were all sworn in by Mrs Liakatos, Mr Kennedy and myself. Caitlin Rodham, Inigo Bardos, Holly Wilson and George Kirolus addressed the community in their first speech as College Vice Captains and Captains. Here is what they said.

College Vice Captains

Good Morning Students, Staff and the incoming Student Leadership Team for 2021.

This morning we are here to induct the new College leaders and for the first time, we will induct House Captains for Blackwell House and Willsher House. As a leadership team, we all have the desire to forge ahead into the new Kindy to 12 College that we will be in 2021. As a leadership team, we think that this is a wonderful initiative that will help the College’s overall strength and character. We will try our very best to embrace our exciting future and honour the legacy of the students who have gone before us.

Mr Humble has asked the leadership team this year to be proactive and initiate student-focused change for the greater good of the College and the community. As part of this mission, we have confidence that the whole College - every student, teacher, and parent, will be proactive with us. The new Leadership Team is not simply four people, nor is just those who were assigned captaincy positions. The leadership team is made up of the 730 people sitting in front of me. It’s you, teachers, parents and students alike and it is up to all of us to work together, to communicate, to collaborate, to support each other and to embrace this opportunity that has been given to us to move forward, as one team and as one community.

College Captains

Good Morning Mr Humble, Staff and Students

Over the past five years, we have had the privilege of growing and learning with our cohort, watching each other develop as leaders, to now be the seniors of the College.

We would like to congratulate our peers that have been appointed leadership roles, we are confident that you will do an excellent job in representing and enhancing the college in your designated fields.

As we begin Term 4, the realisation that we are in our final stages of schooling is upon us. We are looking forward to the future, as many exciting new endeavours for The Riverina Anglican College will be undertaken and this will present many opportunities to grow and learn together. The commencement of the Junior School and the welcoming of additional staff and students is a chance for every member of the College to display leadership and kindness.

When asked of our goals and aspirations for this term, the answer is quite complex.

Whilst the leadership team has goals that they have already considered and planned, we will promote an era of student voice, where the goals for the College are influenced by the people that sit in front of us; staff and students. We want to raise awareness and promote causes that matter to you, including mental health and wellbeing. We want to work hard to achieve goals that matter and will benefit you and the future members of the College

The 2021 Leadership Team will hold collaboration at its centre as this quality will allow us to inspire and foster the College’s core values. Working alongside our fellow captains, we will promote each portfolio, ensuring every member of the College’s individual gifts are recognised and promoted. It is our role as Captains to harness each other's individual strengths to allow for every member of the College to fulfil their potential and serve our College. We will work to make sure that we all endeavour to provide empathy, care and service to each other as opportunities are presented to us. The Riverina Anglican College has taught us the importance of community both within and beyond our campus. As College Captains we look forward to working closely with College Prefects, an exciting opportunity to engage with the Middle years of our College.

With that in mind, both Holly,  myself and all the other members of the Leadership Team hope to leave a long lasting, positive impact on the college for generations to come. Despite the many challenges we have all faced in the past year, it is important that we all remain hopeful and stay positive, without losing sight of our goals and aspirations.

We have a very supportive culture within the College, with that, it is important to remember that every member of the Leadership Team is here to help and support you, so we encourage you all to approach any of us if you are in need. With our time here at the college, the leadership team hopes to further develop and enhance inter-house culture, particularly with the inclusion of the two new college sport houses; Willsher and Blackwell. We hope that next year, we are able to watch all members of the College participate in Sporting carnivals, musical and orchestra performances and more whole school activities.

At the end of 2019, no one could have imagined the many challenges that we have faced in 2020. Similarly, we cannot assume that we will not face similar challenges in

2021. However, through working together as a collective, collaborating with all members of the community and fostering the College’s core values, we are sure to have the ability to overcome the challenges that we may face in the future. We want all will be 880 members at the commencement of 2021, to be happy and comfortable to approach us at any time as we are your voice to the wider community.
