Student Voice & Agency Wrap Up

It has been an amazing year for our student leaders!

2022 Student Voice & Agency Successes

Some of the amazing things we have achieved in the Student Voice and Agency space this year:

  • Students have participated in a range of leadership and advocacy training opportunities through providers such as Headspace and ABCN Future Thinkers.
  • Student leaders visited Home Groups on a fortnightly basis to stay connected with their peers and provide opportunities for student voice.
  • Environmental Edgars Week in Term 2 got every student involved in cleaning up the school and promoting environmentally conscious behaviour.
  • Students supported at House Athletics events by running activities at Edgars Creek Primary School and Epping Views Primary School.
  • Edgars Creek's Got Talent in Term 3 was a student-organised performing arts event, where students got to share their skills in front of an enthusiastic audience.
  • The Student Representative Council completed a review of the new canteen by surveying their peers, and presented their findings to School Council and the canteen provider.
  • Students fundraised for a range of charities throughout the year, raising over $1,000 for organisations including Clean Up Australia and Footy Colours Day.
  • Our first every Year 12 Jacket Committee designed their own custom Year 12 varsity jackets for 2023.
  • Appreciation Day in Term 4 was the culmination of student leaders' work in 2022, as students from all year levels came together to show appreciation and gratitude for each other and the school community.
  • Student leaders came together to celebrate with a pizza lunch and commemorate their hard work and achievements in 2022.

It has been a wonderful year as the Student Voice and Agency Leader in 2022. I would like to thank every student leader and volunteer who supported at student-led events and activities, attended the Student Representative Council to be a voice for their peers, and to the staff and school community who have encouraged our student leaders to be role models and build their leadership capacity. Congratulations to these students, and thank you to the students who have applied and interviewed for Senior School Captain for 2023 - we look forward to announcing these soon. All students will have an opportunity at the start of next year to apply for a student leadership role, and we encourage any interested students to speak to this year's leaders to find out more about the roles, responsibilities and benefits of being a leader.

Next year, Maria Yoffreda will be taking the reigns as Student Voice and Agency Leader:

"Hi everyone! My name is Maria, I teach Spanish at ECSC and I will be the Student Voice and Agency Leader for 2023. I am so excited to be working with our student leaders to create some great events for next year and help lift their voices in the school and community."
