SCSA Basketball

Recently our Basketballers ventured into the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre to compete in the Division 1 SCSA Competition.

Basketball is always a challenging (and tiring) day with six schools competing, all teams play five games prior to the finals! Congratulations to all players for their efforts on the day.

Junior A - 4th

Jasmine C, Thea H, Tijana H, Holly K, Pratima T, Amy W and Hayley W

Junior B - 5th

Sophie R, Hannah R, Tahlia R, Lily M, Sofia A, Riley D and Alice R

Our Junior Teams were a little down on numbers with some late withdrawals due to illness but the students gave it their all with the Junior A team making the semi-finals and the Junior B team, whilst only coming away with one win, were very competitive in every game!

Intermediates - 1st place

Josie F, Neve L, Meghna V, Ella W, Jessica C, Olivia M, Jasmine P, Lucy C, Bianca S-J

The Intermediate Team dominated the competition, winning all their round games comfortably. In the finals the depth of the team really shone through with an even contribution from all nine players and the team winning their Grand Final against Avila 47-17. In a very even team, Ella W was named 'Best Player in the Grand Final'.

Seniors - 1st place

Maya D, Mia P, Ella R, Hannah W, Maddi T, Sienna R, Zoe B and Leah A

The Senior Team, under the expert tutelage of Australian Opal, Darcee Garbin, also had a fantastic day with the team dominating the Senior Competition to easily win their way through to the finals. The finals were no different as the team continued their dominance, defeating Mater Christi 35-11 in the Grand Final. Another team effort with lots of contributors. Maya D was named 'Best Player in the Grand Final'. A big congratulations and thank you to Maya, who in her final year, has represented the College in Basketball every year!

SEGAP Sport

The last two  weeks of SEGAP sport has seen the Junior Teams competing at Monash University.

There have been mixed results including:

Kilbreda Basketball A Team defeated SHGC 42-13 and the B team lost to SHGC 21-25.

The Futsal Team lost three goals to 0 and the Badminton Team were unable to win a set against SHGC. In the second week of competition the Futsal Team drew 2-2 against OLSH with Kilbreda scoring the second goal in the dying minutes of the game.

The Badminton Team was able to win some valuable games against OLSH. Their Badminton skills are definitely improving. The 4th pairs game went into the 3rd set.

Basketball A lost 13-21 and Basketball B lost 24-25 in the dying seconds of the game. A great result!

Next week the Intermediates play the 'double header' against SHGC and Killester and the Juniors play Killester.

Good luck to all teams.

Sport Trials

There is lots happening in the Sport Department in the coming weeks and we encourage all students to keep an eye on SIMON for trial/training information.

Cross Country, Aerobics and Hockey training/trials have commenced. If any students wish to be considered for these teams they need to make sure they head along to the trials.

AFL, Volleyball, Netball and Soccer are in the first few weeks of Term 3 so trials for these teams will commence in the coming weeks. If your daughter is absent they need to contact the organising teacher and let them know.

Victorian Schools Golf Championships

Congratulations to Matilda D in Year 10 who has qualified for the State Finals of the Independent Schools Golf Championships to be held at Long Island on 30 May. Good luck Matilda!

VSAC Swimming

On Monday 9 May, Mia H and Kate G represented our association, SCSA, at the Victorian Schools Association Swimming Championships (VSAC).

SCSA was represented by about 15 students from all our affiliated schools who qualified the fastest in the SCSA Swimming Carnivals across the three divisions in 2022. SCSA came 6th overall out of 13 associations which is a great result!

Kate and Mia swam exceptionally well, placing in the following events:

Kate - 3rd place in Girls 200M Breaststroke relay

Mia - 3rd place in Girls 14 to 15 50m Backstroke

Well done to both students on their performances.
