Women in Leadership Dinner

On Thursday 12 May, 17 College Leaders attended the Victorian Catholic Secondary Schools Deputy Principals’ Association annual Women in Leadership dinner. It was a wonderful evening spent together and provided an opportunity to listen to guest speaker Kate Roffey, President of the Melbourne Football Club.

During her presentation she encouraged us to consider the "corridor of opportunities"; that is, not to be so occupied with the door with the star at the end of the corridor as you'll miss out on the doors along the way. Often in life, the best opportunities are those that are unexpected and come from doors that we may not have opened as we were too busy looking for something else.

In terms of our leadership practice, she spoke about surrounding yourself with "diamonds"; in other words, as leaders we should strive to have better leaders around us, as this will make a brilliant team.

The final thought she left us to reflect on, was the importance of caring more about others and your impact on them, than the impact a situation has on yourself.  Such a fitting end, with such strong links to our College motto, Strength and Kindliness.
