Learning and Teaching

We are only four weeks into Term 2, and Kilbreda students have already been involved in so many opportunities. Opportunities to learn, to grow and experience the amazing world around us. Our Debating Teams have been representing the College well and achieved some fantastic results. Sporting teams have been tearing up the courts and our performers are in the midst of rehearsals for the production of High School Musical Jr.

What a privilege it is to be part of this community.

NAPLAN

Students in Years 7 and 9 participated in NAPLAN testing last week and for the first time they experienced this online. Whilst NAPLAN tests can seem a little daunting, they provide a wonderful opportunity for students to start preparing for other high stakes testing such as VCE examinations.

Students responded well to the experience and were supported by teachers to remain composed, focused and to try their best.

Later in the year, parents will receive their child’s personal NAPLAN report. The report will describe your child’s particular skills in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. The report will also show how your child performed in relation to national minimum standards. These describe the minimum acceptable standards for students across Australia.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data Notice

Each year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). Our College will again be participating in this process over the coming months.

The NCCD process requires us to identify information already available in the College about ways that we are supporting students with an identified disability. We do this as part of our requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, and in line with the NCCD Guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes: year of schooling; category of disability (physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional); and level of adjustment provided (support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive).

This information assists schools to:

  • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • develop shared practices so they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

Further information about the NCCD can be found HEREon the NCCD Portal.

Attached is the information sheet for parents.

If you have any further questions about the NCCD, please do not hesitate to contact the Head of Learning Diversity at the College at denise.dunne@kilbreda.vic.edu.au
