Year 11 Physical Education

Over the last few weeks of Term 1 and the beginning of Term 2, the Unit 1 Physical Education  students have been engaging in a number of activities offsite. The classes participated in beach volleyball, a beach walk and a spin class to collect data as part of their SAC on the systems of the body.

Last Thursday 12 May, they traveled to RSEA Park, the home of the St Kilda Football Club as part of their upcoming SAC on Sports Injuries.

Going to the St Kilda Football Club was an amazing opportunity to see all the training facilities available and to learn just how busy a footballer's schedule is, especially the women's team. They manage working full-time jobs and then head to training, working all day and using incredible recovery equipment and routines from a gym to an indoor pool and ice baths as well as a basketball court and, of course, the footy field.

It was great to see the care and attention that each player gets so they can be the best athlete and person possible, like looking after their mental health and even looking at their natural sleep patterns to best aid their recovery. We took part in a mobility class that was challenging but so rewarding and it worked so well getting easier movement and releasing stress.

It was great to hear from Hannah Priest, the AFLW St Kilda Captain. She spoke about her life before football and the exciting journey she got to take to become the sole captain. It was inspiring and motivating. I am sure I can say on behalf of all of the students we had a great day and we can’t wait to see how fantastic this next season of women’s footy is going to be.

With the colder weather and shorter days setting in, it really is the time of year when our motivation to be active wanes. Being active is so important for all aspects of our wellbeing and just doing something (however small) each day is so beneficial. Walk the dog, have a Just 'dance off' or even race to put the washing away. Try and encourage everyone to get their bodies moving!
