Then & Now

Here’s Ms Ryder Barnes as a lanky Year 7 student at Felpham Community College in West Sussex, England. We’re not actually sure how long ago that was…let’s just say it was a long time ago.

This photo was taken during the athletics carnival and Ms Ryder Barnes won the long jump and her achievements were celebrated in the local paper.

Then
Then

Ms Ryder Barnes has always been a bit of a giant and she made the most of this as a youngster and was relatively sporty as a student. She represented her school in javelin and long jump but she hated netball because, due to her height, she always got lumped into goal keeper. We’re not really sure why she wasn’t given a run in goal shooter but can only assume she had a poor aim and her personality was better suited to intimidating other players as her team’s last line of defence.

As a student, her interests were firmly embedded in Performing Arts and sport was used as an opportunity to get out of classes. We’re not sure too many of our students would relate to this…

Ms Ryder Barnes had a great time at school. She loved her friends, cherished the adventures they went on and she absolutely treasured having her mum teach at her school (for many reasons, but mainly because she didn’t have to worry if she left her lunch money at home).

Thanks for sharing Ms Ryder Barnes! We can’t wait to see you replicate this photograph at our next athletics carnival.
