ECO!SLAM POETRY HEATS

Last Wednesday 14 August, three of our talented poets performed in front of an audience of hundreds in Mueller Hall in the Royal Botanic Gardens. They performed a powerful and moving poem about the state of the world and sent a message to politicians about various issues that matter to them such as climate change and violence against women. There was some serious competition and whilst our students didn't get through to the final, their poem was excellent and held its own amongst a field of amazing poems. The above banner photo shows all of the poetry slam teams from many high schools around Melbourne all wearing their super cool POET caps.

Here's our team performing. Congratulations Abbie, Mali and Felix!

Everyone is welcome but registration is essential by following this link: Free pizza registration

We recommend that you bring a device such as a smartphone, tablet or laptop and that you have an FCC student with you as you will need their Compass login details to access the resources. We will have an IT specialist technician on hand to troubleshoot any issues. Rather than go home and come back, students are welcome to attend homework club in the library beforehand.

From Monday 19 - Wednesday 21 August, we will be offering word games and book quizzes during lunchtimes.

On Thursday 22 August we will be hosting a dress-up parade during lunchtime. Students are invited to come to school dressed as a character from a book. Prizes will be awarded for best dressed. Judges will be looking for creativity, attention to detail and enthusiasm. Students can register for house points via this link.

Friday 23 August - Come here and say it, sing it or play it, students are invited to perform in an open mic event in front of a supportive and receptive audience. Past performances have included:

  • poetry
  • singing
  • improv
