2021 HIGH ACHIEVERS ASSEMBLY

This morning, we welcomed our Class of 2021 High Achievers back to the College for our High Achievers Whole School Assembly, where we heard many stories of our wonderful graduates going into areas to make a difference.

The College is extremely proud of the academic achievements of the Class of 2021 who lived the College motto, Always Striving Upwards, to achieve their personal best. 99.08% of eligible Year 12 students achieved the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) in 2021.

We congratulate our students for their hard work and relentless determination to achieve excellence. Their positive attitude, persistence and fierce determination were certainly contributing factors to their success. The West Australian newspaper published a list of the top 50 Median ATAR schools in Western Australia. According to this list, Sacred Heart College was ranked 27th in the state with a Median ATAR of 85.9. Sacred Heart College students also achieved the second highest number of SCSA awards out of all Catholic Schools in Western Australia (77 awards).

MISSED ASSESSMENT POLICY

The COVID-19 pandemic has made 2022 a challenging year in terms of the implementation of assessments. To help our students during 2022, the College has made a number of important changes to the Assessment Policy and to assessment procedures.

In 2022, students have been provided with greater opportunities to complete missed assessments and have the mark for the missed assessment count toward their final mark/grade. As a result, fewer students have been awarded standardised marks.
It is strongly recommended that students who are feeling unwell should not attend school to complete an assessment. This particularly applies to students who may be experiencing a sore throat, cough and/or respiratory symptoms.
Students who miss an assessment have the opportunity to complete a catch up assessment at 8:00am (before school) in MLC 9/10 (opposite the entrance to the Koort Centre).
Students are expected to complete the catch up assessment(s) within three school days of returning to the College. Parents/caregivers should speak with their relevant Assistant Deputy Principal (ADP) if they have:
- missed multiple assessments and require more time (more than three days) to complete the missed assessments. In such circumstances, parents should speak with the relevant ADP.
- had little or no opportunity to prepare for the missed assessment due to the severity of illness.
If a student in Years 10, 11 or 12 is unwell and therefore unable to attend school to complete an assessment, parents are requested to email the relevant ADP with either a medical certificate or proof of a positive COVID result. If, for whatever reason, this is not possible, parents and caregivers are requested to email the relevant ADP with an explanation as to why their child has missed the assessment and also an explanation of why it is not possible to provide a medical certificate.
If a student in Years 7, 8 or 9 is unwell and therefore unable to attend school to complete an assessment, parents are requested to email the relevant ADP with an explanation as to why their child has missed the assessment.

SUBJECT SELECTION FOR YEAR 11, 2023

Parents and caregivers of Year 10 students have received an email about the subject selection process. Students are required to use Subject Selection Online (SSO) to make an appointment with their subject advisor. Parents and caregivers are welcome to attend the interview with the subject advisor, but it is not compulsory for parents to attend. Interviews must be completed by Tuesday 9 August. Parents and caregivers have received an email with a 5-digit PIN required to finalise the subject selection form.

YEAR 12 SEMESTER TWO EXAMINATIONS

Parents are reminded that the Year 12 Semester Two Examinations (Mock/Trial WACE Examinations) will commence on Monday 3 October (Week 2 of the school holidays) and conclude on Friday 14 October (Week 1, Term 4). Year 12 students will soon receive a copy of the Year 12 Semester Two Examination Timetable.

YEAR 12 SCSA DEADLINES

All Year 12s are reminded about very important deadlines set by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) that are listed below. Please do not hesitate to contact Mr Tony Budas or me if you have any questions about these deadlines.

Monday 8 August (Week 4, Term 3):

While it is still possible to withdraw from courses, students must complete the equivalent of five year length courses in Year 12 to achieve WACE. Any student who is thinking about withdrawing from a subject MUST check with myself or Mr Tony Budas if you have any questions in respect to this deadline.

Last date for withdrawal of enrolment from any ATAR course without a practical examination component for Year 12 students.
Last date for withdrawal of enrolment from General, Foundation, Preliminary and VET industry specific courses for Year 12 students.
