STUDENT LEADERSHIP POSITIONS

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Year 11 Dinner Dance last Friday evening. The students were absolutely at their best and I am sure that everyone in attendance had a fantastic time.

Our Year 11 students will now be voting for Head Boy and Head Girl of the College for 2023. I am impressed with the number of students who have nominated for these prestigious positions, and I wish them well with their leadership aspirations. The Head Boy and Head Girl will be announced to the Year 11s and their parents next week and then presented to the College community at an Assembly later in the Term.

The two big themes for today’s Whole School Assembly were NAIDOC Week and acknowledging the High Achievers from the Class of 2021. Typically, acknowledging the high flyers occurs at the beginning of the academic year; however, as you may recall, we had cancelled the Opening College Assembly and many other gatherings in Terms 1 and 2 due to the COVID-19 protocols.

While NAIDOC Week 2022 was celebrated countrywide in the first week of the school holidays, we as a College will mark this important occasion next week. NAIDOC Week is about the celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Island culture and achievements and recognising the contributions that Indigenous Australians bring to our country and society. This year the theme of Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! calls on us all to recognise, protect and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage. It will be a great opportunity for students and staff to participate in a range of activities in celebration of this age-old culture.

It was wonderful to award so many students with these elite awards at today’s Assembly and I congratulate all of our High Achievers from 2021. Anthony Bulich was presented with the Always Striving Upwards Award (awarded to the student who achieves the highest ATAR score) with an ATAR score of 99.90. His ATAR score placed him in the top 0.1% of the State which is an outstanding achievement.

I extend the College community's best wishes to all Award recipients for a successful 2022 and beyond.

Congratulations to Year 9 students Josie Hunt (O'Reilly), Angel Babu (Kimberley), Emily Logan (Carden) and Charlotte Selth (Carden) who were announced winners of the Just Start IT Competition for their app Face The Waste. The Just Start IT program supports students with know-how and industry mentors to develop ideas and apps that help solve practical problems with technology. Over 200 teams started and worked on their start-up ideas for a semester. The final, earlier this week, showcased the top 10 ideas from different schools, where our Year 9s were announced the overall winners.

Well done: your hard work and determination has paid off. A fantastic effort and achievement by all.
