Music Matters

The Music department is gearing up for a very busy few weeks with Music Camp being held from 27 - 29 May at Camp Oasis in Mt. Evelyn. Shortly after we will be holding the annual Winter Concert on Tuesday, 4 June.

MUSIC CAMP

Wednesday, 27 - 29 May

We are very excited to announce that we have a record 120 students attending our Music Camp this year, smashing our previous record of 95. Music students from all year levels will be involved in rehearsals and workshops in three Concert Bands, two String Orchestras and two Jazz Bands. We will also have amassed item with all students performing together for our Winter Concert Finale.  The camp is a great chance for the ensembles to prepare for the concert and for younger students to be mentored by the senior students and understand what is expected of them in their ensembles. The student’s playing level is always boosted by the focussed playing over the three days. We also get to do some fun activities such as a Flying Fox, Rock Climbing, Candle Making, visiting the camp’s Reptile House and of course the traditional talent show on the final night. The camp finishes with a concert where all the students get to play for each other which is always a highlight.

If your child has qualified for the school Cross Country event held on Monday, 27 May, please make sure you have contacted Mrs Howes about how you are getting to the camp after your return. Students will not be able to travel on the school buses and must make alternative arrangements such as being driven by their parents or a friend’s parents in a carpool. Mrs Howes needs to be told of these arrangements as soon as possible to finalise bus numbers.

GUITAR ENSEMBLE WORKSHOP

Wednesday, 29 May

As the guitar ensembles cannot be accommodated at the Music Camp, Mr Sheers will be running the usual workshop for all students in the Junior and Senior Guitar Ensembles on the Wednesday during the school day. They will work through their repertoire for the Winter Concert and have a pizza lunch. The event is on Compass and all students involved should have paid and had parental consent.

WINTER MUSIC CONCERT

Tuesday, 4 June

The Winter Concert is the showcase of all our first semester’s hard work. All music students are required to attend to ensure we have complete ensembles and it is also their final assessment CAT for the semester. Students should arrive at 6:30 pm for a 7 pm start. The concert will last around two hours and tickets will be available at the door on the night. Adults $5, Students/Concession $3 and Families $10. All family and friends are welcome to what is always a very special night.

We hope to see you there.
