Senior Girls Football

The Senior Girls Football team participated in the Booroondara District Schools Football Round Robin. Sporting brand new jumpers which the girls earned through recent success, there was plenty of energy going around.

The first game Saw the girls defeat Kew 18.5.113 to 0.1.1. The girls set a positive tone for the whole day, with Lauren T. leading the way scoring 4 goals, while Teagan S., Lauren DW. and Ash M. all contributed 2 and many other single goal scorers for the game.

The second game we came up against a Balwyn team who had beaten us in the past. Unfortunately, though they could not get a full 18 players on the field, so we took this opportunity to rest many of the girls to hopefully prepare for a final. While we didn’t quite score as heavily as the first game, we did keep Balwyn scoreless, with the final score for the second game being 7.11.53 to 0.0.0. Maddie Buszano was the prolific up forward, scoring 3 goals and 3 behinds, and was well supported on the scoreboard by Steph P. and Georgia H. in this game.

As we finished on top of our pool, we played first place of Pool A which was Camberwell High School. This was a very physical game, with Camberwell fighting very hard for 40 minutes. All of the girls played this game out so well, with the final score being 5.5.35 to 1.1.7, making the Senior Girls Football Team District Premiers!

Well done to all the girls who participated in the day, and we wish the team luck as they head on to the Eastern Metropolitan Region Round Robin later in the year.

Senior Girls Netball

On Tuesday, May 13, twenty Senior girls represented the school in netball. It was a busy day, with each of the two teams playing nearly 3 hours of netball on up, in what was perfect weather conditions. The girls represented the school fantastically, and I was very proud of the way that they conducted themselves on and off the court. I special mention goes to Jade Allison (11B) and Georgia Asquith (12D) for their repeated efforts in many positions across the day.

VCAL Road to Zero

On Tuesday, 7 May the Foundation, Intermediate and the Senior VCAL students went into the city to attend the Melbourne Museum’s Road to Zero, which is a program based on Road Safety, targeted at secondary school students. The Road to Zero comprises two experiences: The Road to Zero experience and exploratory gallery showcasing the latest in multi-sensory interactive technologies.

Road to Zero has been developed by TAC in partnership with the Melbourne Museum. Students were instructed in the science behind road crashes as well as looking into the future of road use. Students were engaged in virtual reality road safety science. Latest vehicle technology: road design and how to contribute to making zero road deaths and serious injuries. The students created their own videos concentrating on the hazards of mobile phones on the roads.

It was a very valuable experience which students are better prepared for their own journey as road users and drivers. The students who attended are far better equipped to deal with what all of the community experiences “Road Use”.
