Vinnies Winter Clothing Appeal
Thank you to everyone that contributed to the Vinnies Winter Clothing Appeal. Your contributions have been bagged up and delivered. We thank Vinnies for all that they do to support those in need during these cold winter days and nights.
BASP Winter Food Drive
This week the Living Justice Leaders launched our BASP Winter Food Drive. Each Homeroom was given a list of food/items most needed by asylum seekers. The food/items will be collected on Monday 9 August. Popular requests include basmati rice, flour, cooking oil, shampoo/conditioner and honey! Food can be delivered by students or left at reception. COVID has had an enormous impact on these people and how they can generate any form of income, so donations are greatly appreciated.
Brigidine Day Fundraising
Following our BASP Winter Food Drive, on Tuesday 10 August we will launch our Brigidine Day fundraising. This year we will be fundraising for BASP, so that they can continue to support the needs of those that, in order to survive, have fled their home country and who currently seek refuge in our wonderful country.
Birthing Kit Assembly Day
Due to lockdown we had to postpone our Birthing Kit Assembly Day which will now take place on 31 August. Places are still available to join us to help make a difference in the lives of mothers living in rural communities and low-resource settings and babies to have access to a clean and safe birth.

Sustainability
The Student Sustainability Leaders have been busy planning several exciting projects that we will put into practice this term. The lockdowns may have slightly delayed our plans, but the group is passionate about making a difference at Kilbreda.
- Year 7 and 8 Leaders, Charlotte Quigley, Indira Alappatt, Charlotte Maclean and Angelique Flaskis are promoting 'Nude Food' days every Wednesday for the rest of the year. We are encouraging all students to plan their lunches so that no rubbish is brought to school, with the aim of reducing rubbish going to landfill. We are kicking this off with a competition for Year 7 Homerooms, which will be announced this week.
- Year 9 and 10 Leaders. Chloe Davis, Charlotte Singleton, Elke Madlener, Mary Tobin and Gemma Hubeek are planning to develop an area of our grounds into a habitat garden to attract butterflies (see before photo below).
We have made a start by collecting local native seedlings donated through Kingston Council’s National Tree Day for Schools program.
- The Year 11 Leaders, along with other Year 11 students, are designing a campaign to raise awareness of climate change, which will be entered in the Youth for Peace competition https://groups.psychology.org.au/GroupContent.aspx?ID=8271
- Our Year 12 Leaders, Skye Zhu-Maguire and Sophia Bryant are working with the Year 12 Student Leadership group planning Brigidine Day this term, as well as coordinating the Sustainability Team. Their enthusiasm and leadership unite our team.
Now that we are back at school, our Garden Club will be back in action on Wednesdays. The vegetable garden needs weeding and the broad beans and snow peas need staking!
