Lockdown 4.0 – Cook Along Returns

Over the first weekend of Lockdown 4.0, a Facebook memory popped up, reminding me it had been twelve months since I did the first Cook Along with Carole practical class from the Kilbreda kitchen, so I tried it again in the hope of boosting spirits and involvement in my Food Technology and Café Culture classes during remote learning.

After an online discussion with my classes, most agreed that we would give it a go and try a recipe that might save someone at home having to prepare lunch, dinner or both, whilst practising the skills we had learnt at school.

Year 8 Food Technology

I was thrilled with the number of Year 8 students who made cheese and herb muffins in their cook Along.

Zoe Fitzgerald is pictured here in her kitchen with fluffy and appetising muffins!

Alessia Mastrocola made these yummy ones for her family!

And these are Joyoti Ghosh’s creations.

Year 9 Café Culture

The Year 9 Café Culture students loved designing and making their own brownies, where they used a basic brownie recipe with a twist and also used what they could find in their cupboards. Some students added chocolate chips, sprinkles, Mars bars, Nutella, various lollies and one student even made a rocky road brownie!

How incredible do Marilyn Vincent’s cupcake Brownies look!

Other recipes chosen by the Year 9 Café Culture class included stir fry with satay sauce and pasta carbonara.

Jessica Dolby’s family certainly enjoyed both dishes!

Charlotte Dinon also cooked pasta carbonara – loading it up with lots of garlic and bacon.

Mia Neves cooked up this delicious version for her family to enjoy together.

Year 9 Food Technology

The Year 9 Food Technology class made some of the tastiest satay chicken that was ‘melt in your mouth’! How delicious does Alyssa Sheedy’s look?

Bianca Terry put a nice spin on hers by serving the skewers on a bed of rice with some steamed green beans. She loved this meal and so did her family

It was Zarah Tenaglia who found and shared the recipe with the class and her chicken satay also looked amazing!

I was so thrilled that the students got so involved in the cook-alongs during this period of remote learning and I am very grateful to all parents and carers for supporting this idea and buying the supplies so the dishes could be prepared and cooked.

It was lovely to receive many nice comments via email and on camera!
