Primary

Primary classes have been accessing the newly relocated library and are participating in library lessons with Mrs Bradbury. The students are enjoying hearing stories, completing activities and borrowing books.

Class 10 have enjoyed outings to Cook Park and Elephant Park recently. Lots of fun was had playing in the leaves at Cook Park.

Class 5 students have been making great progress with their learning activities in the classroom. Students are practicing a lot of different activities and developing their gross motor and fine motor skills.

Class 13 have been engaging in technology to support their learning in mathematics this term. The students are enjoying using iPads in class.

All of the Primary students are enjoying the new playground area and sensory playground (when it isn't raining or snowing).

Stage 4

Class 14 have been busy making the most of all that our awesome school has to offer - pottery with Mr Windsor, mastering hammering nails, folding, vacuuming and sweeping in the Skills House with Miss Edwina and Mr Dederer, keeping active in the gym, enjoying time with peers on outings and cooking tasty treats. Fabulous work kids!

Class 15 have busily engaged in their learning these last few weeks. Cooking up a storm in the kitchen, building connection with one another through group games, persisting with difficult tasks to achieve personal goals and enjoying hands on science lessons with Miss Evans.

A visit by Class 16 to the local library was enjoyed by all, giving students a wonderful opportunity to engage with their local community and facilities. Students have also put their creative flare to play in some arty science lessons, their taste buds to the test during food technology as they used their senses to explore the characteristics of different foods and the minds to the test during Math groups. Well done Class 16!

Congratulations to Blake, Dave, Dylan, Evelyn and Sam who joined stage 6 students in completing a three day Barista Skills course through VERTO last week. Our students were highly commended for their fantastic attitudes and willingness to learn. Well done! We can’t wait to put your new skills to the test.

Congratulations to Phebea who last week was announced as the winner of the Central West NSW RDA colouring in competition for her age group. We are so proud of your perseverance in attending Art Studio with Mrs Huggett to complete the artwork. Fantastic job Phebea!

What’s been happening in class 7…

Each Monday Miss Marley, our school dietician, engages in food play with class 7. Each week a new fruit is introduced and students are encouraged to try them. Jory has been putting his Proloquo2go skills to the test in these lessons, using the app to ask for some apple too. What great progress you are all making.

Stella has been persisting with using her Bigmack switch to greet her class each morning and make requests. She has been practicing this skill when visiting other stage 5 classrooms and has been able to share a joke with her classmates. This week’s joke is bought to you by Mrs Wykes- “Why was the sand wet? Because the sea weed!”

Our stage participated in National Simultaneous Storytime on 25th May. We joined in with thousands of other students in Australia in reading Family Tree by Josh Pyke and Ronojoy Ghosh. This was complimented by students exploring their own family trees and creating beautiful artworks.

Congratulations to Alex, Jack, Nathaniel, Ruby Ryan and Charlie who completed a three day Barista Skills course through VERTO last week. They did extremely well completing practical and theory assessments over the three days and can now independently make an espresso, long black, cappuccino, flat white and hot chocolate, thanks to their brilliant Barista teacher Mr Jon . All students enjoyed their time, making and trying the hot drinks especially the hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows.

Health Services Careers Open Day at Orange CSU. Students enjoyed participating in a range of immersive experiences and talking to people from TAFE, Verto, Skillset, OAMS, LiveBetter and Universities about possible future career opportunities.

On Thursday 19th May our two school leaders Alex and Nathaniel participated in a ‘Young Leaders of Orange Summit’ with other young local student leaders hosted by James Sheahan Catholic High School. It was a great opportunity for Alex and Nathaniel to get to know other local young leaders and expand their leadership skills. They are currently working on a proposed project that they have raised with Orange Council and will continue working on their plan over the year.

Boys to the Bush

The boys are continuing to enjoy this program each Wednesday. They have been to many local places such as Mortimers Wines as well as places in Bathurst and Ophir. They managed to avoid the bitter cold last week with some healthy competition at TenPin Bowling and some relaxation at the movies. The program comes to an end this week.

Construction

The Campus grounds have seen a lot of construction and site work with the inclusion of electronic swipes on the gates and doors of the classrooms. We have had many working visitors on-site and lots of mud during the wet weather. All students have been incredibly patient and respectful of this disruption. We are looking forward to the completion of this work in the very near future.

Class 17 have been studying the solar system in Science and have been amazed at some of the information they are learning - the sizes of some of the planets are mind-blowing! They have also been practising mindfulness through art.

Class 18 have been busy creating stories and artworks about things that interest them. The topics range from dinosaurs to machinery as well as fishing and Autumn.

Both the wet weather and staff shortages have seen our classes joining together for some lessons as well as breaks. Students are adapting very well to these changes and challenges and are developing friendships and learning experiences with others. It is wonderful to see students embrace these experiences as they work on building resilience and greater social skills

Class 19

We have recently welcomed a number of new students to the Campus, joining the newly formed Class 19. Class 19 has Mrs Hargraves and Ms Pritchard as teachers and Mrs Suzie Grant in support as the SLSO. The girls have been working together on a class artwork as well as learning about working together in a new environment.
