VERTO barista course

Last week 15 students from stage 5 and 6 completed a 3-day barista course delivered by VERTO. Mrs Hodder, Miss Bree and Ms Cox supported the students as they developed their barista skills, making a range of hot beverages. They quickly learnt to respond to the instructor saying 'housekeeping' by checking which step they had forgotten. This prompt will now be used in the barista program at school. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience, they supported each other and had lots of laughs as well.

Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week

National Sorry Day is an annual day of remembrance held on 26 May. The purpose of the day is to recognise and reflect upon the mistreatment of the First Nations peoples of Australia since the arrival of Europeans in 1788. In particular, we remember a group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples known as the ‘Stolen Generations’. Students' explored the meaning of the stolen generations and considered the impacts and perspectives of Aboriginal people through short video clips, pictures, text and discussions.

Reconciliation week is always 27 May (Referendum anniversary) to 3 June (MABO decision anniversary). This year the theme was “Be Brave. Make Change.” , we indeed challenged staff and students to talk about what they could do to contribute to reconciliation and how they could create change. Learning opportunities included stimulus such as the "Uluru statement from the heart" and Archie Roach's took the children away song.
