Principal's Page

Dear Families,

Spring Carnival is a great time of year with colour  and celebrations. Our Ladies Oak's Day Lunch is a highlight of the calendar and is on tomorrow. Thank you to Sophie, Hope, Zoe and Liz who have put so much effort into the preparations for the day and to all who are supporting our community by attending.

We welcomed our 2023 Preps and their parents last Wednesday morning for their first transition session.

Happy and Resilient Young People

We are extremely fortunate to have Michael Carr-Gregg talking to parents on Building Happy and Resilient Young People. Dr Michael Carr-Gregg is one of Australia's highest profile psychologists, author of 14 books, broadcaster and a specialist in corporate mental health, families, parenting, children, adolescents and the use of technology for mental health. I encourage parents to make the most of this free event being held at Sorrento Community Centre Thursday December 1 at 5:00pm.  This is a wonderful opportunity and I encourage all families to attend.

Shade Sails

On Friday a large shade sail will be installed  between the school and basketball court. This has been funded by the Victorian  Government's shade sail grants announced late last year. This area will be a wonderful addition to our school.

The Fathering Project

Thank you to Jenny Todd for organising our Paper Planes and Pizza Night. It was great to see so many fathers and father figures sharing this special evening with their child/children.

Italian Day

Thank you to Roberta for organising last week's Italian Day celebrations. I loved seeing all the wonderful costumes the students came to school in. The children were obviously having a wonderful time

Beach S.T.E.A.M Program

Thank you Jane Byrne for her engaging Beach STEAM Program that the Year Prep, 1 and 2students are enjoying on the Sorrento Foreshore. The program covers learning outcomes from the Science, Technologies, Mathematics and Arts curriculums.

Arts Expo

The long range forecast for Thursday 10 November,  our Arts Expo, is looking fabulous. Student visual art works will be on display and all students are performing an item. The Expo will begin at 5.30pm with performances starting at 6:00pm.

Socktober

Students wore bright, colourful socks last Friday as a symbol of "Socking it to Poverty." Thank you for your generous donations. Students collected $276 which will be given to Catholic Mission for their goat farms in Ethiopia.

2023 Sorrento Schools Fete

The Sorrento Combined Schools Fete will take place again next year. The 25  March 2023 is the date. This event raises money to maintain our swimming pool. Please email me if you are interested in being on the organisation committee.
