SSV FUTSAL GALA DAY

During Term 3 McKinnon won Futsal at Year 7 Girls, Year 8 Boys and Year 8 Girls. To allow these teams to play future matches McKinnon entered these teams in the SSV Futsal Gala day held at LaTrobe Bundoora on Friday 18 November. Schools were represented throughout metropolitan Melbourne.

The Year 8 Boys team coached by Mr Hoskin performed extremely well throughout the day winning all three matches comprehensively demonstrating awesome teamwork and skill.

The Year 8 Girls team coached by Miss Ridout had mixed results with a win, a draw and a loss across their three games.

The Year 7 Girls team coached by Mr Bridges played in the Year 8 competition were very competitive and played really well throughout the day yet failed to win across three games.

Hopefully Futsal will be accepted by the SSV in the future to create a pathway beyond the Kingston Division.

YEAR 7 ALTERNATIVE SPORTS DAY - TUESDAY 15 NOVEMBER 2022

On a very bleak, blustery, freezing Melbourne Spring day, McKinnon entered 16 teams into the Alternative Sports Gala.

Whilst the indoor sports of handball, Indoor bowls flourished, the outdoor sports of super 8s cricket, ultimate and lacrosse showed great resilience to battle the elements and enjoy a somewhat modified programme.

Each sport enjoyed a clinic to brush up on the game rules and strategies from the various sporting organizations before beginning the inter school competition.

Unfortunately for the Lacrosse competition, the ground became too slippery and waterlogged and the games were abandoned.

Ultimate managed to modify the programme with McKinnon teams finishing fourth.

YEAR 7 BOYS SUPER 8s

We had a total of three teams represent McKinnon at the Gala Day. Due to the weather, we spent the morning doing warm up drills practicing our throwing and catching skills. In the afternoon, we battled both schools and the weather, where our game against Brighton had to be stopped from the hail. McKinnon went undefeated throughout the day, beating both Brighton and Bentleigh to take home the pennant.

YEAR 7 GIRLS SUPER 8s CRICKET

Eighteen girls represented the school in Super 8s cricket at King George Reserve on Monday 14 November. We started with a clinic and then played in a three team competition. 1st match Bentleigh V McKinnon Team Riva in which McKinnon won easily. The Bentleigh V McKinnon Team Ishi. McKinnon once again defeated Bentleigh. In the Final of two McKinnon teams the game was decided on the final ball of the match, and yes McKinnon WON!

YEAR 8 ALTERNATIVE SPORTS DAY - FRIDAY 18 NOVEMBER 2022

In much better weather conditions, McKinnon Secondary College entered eighteen teams into the Year 8 Alternative Sports Gala Day.

Kingston Division is the only division to hold this competition.

With the support of the College Principals, Sport Coordinators and Coaches, Kingston Division schools come together to play Ultimate, Super 8s Cricket, Handball, Lacrosse and Lawn Bowls.

The division sees this competition as a chance for the smaller, lesser known sports that are played in Victoria a day to shine. We link in closely with the State bodies who oversee these sports. Everyone participating enjoyed the day immensely.

Congratulations to the McKinnon Year 8 Ultimate team who were victorious in their competition (photo below). I am thrilled the sun was shining for you!

A big thank you to Lacrosse Victoria, Handball Victoria, Glen Eira Council, Oakleigh Indoor Sports, Springers Leisure and Melbourne Sports Institute who fully supported the Gala.
