VISUAL ARTS
JUNIOR ART SHOW
The decision to host two separate events this year reflects the opening of our second campus, with the Junior Art Show in December providing a wonderful opportunity for Year 7 students and parents to explore their ‘new home’ for 2023 at East Campus.
INTRODUCING JUNIOR ART SHOW GUEST SPEAKER MATTHEW BROUGHTON
Our guest speaker for this event is local Illustrator, Designer and Printmaker, Matthew Broughton.
We were delighted to discover that a member of our own school community has been providing such a rich source of inspiration for young artists at our school, when Matthew’s son Jonah spotted the Black Cockatoo print in a collection of works for inspiration in his Year 7 Art class!
Students at McKinnon have been creating animal-themed lino prints as part of our curriculum since 2019. As teachers, we have found that Matthew’s work is perfect for introducing students to the rewarding discipline of linoleum printing, as well as laying a foundational understanding of the elements and principles of Art:
“My linocut prints emphasise the interpretation and simplicity of many forms, particularly the natural world. With a focus on tone, pattern, line, and the relationship between light and shade.”
An accomplished and versatile Artist, Matthew’s portfolio spans a diverse range of styles and mediums beyond printmaking alone. Past and present clients of Matthew Broughton Design include French Connection UK, Fairfax Media, Penguin Randomhouse New York, Pullman on the Park - Melbourne and Kmart to name just a few.
