Principal's Report

Whole School

The start to term 3 has been busy, productive and somewhat chilly this year. There has already been a lot happening around the places with many students making some key achievements, new courses and subjects starting, and new processes and procedures being implemented.

In the first week of term, we had Tylah from year 10 compete I the State Cross Country competition. Tylah came in 18th from across the state which is an exceptional achievement – well done Tylah!

This week, our debating team competed in their first formal debate against other schools. There is a more comprehensive write up about this to follow. The team did really well, losing by only one point and a member of the team (Sophie – Year 10) taking out the best speaker award. An impressive first attempt at a debating competition. We look forward to seeing what they can do with a bit more experience under their belts.

Please note that information regarding advice about the wearing of masks has been sent out this week via Compass news feed. There has also been information sent out regarding new classroom withdrawal processes.

Student Management and Wellbeing

Students have been more settled at the commencement of Term 3, and our Year 7s in particular have demonstrated significant adjustment to the routines and requirements of High School!  We are focusing on managing any challenging behaviours through building relationships and conducting conversations around our College values of Community, Compassion and Curiosity.  Our team of staff at Heathmont are incredibly well suited to these aims.

The class withdrawal system is another opportunity for us to reiterate our values and build relationships, and to demonstrate to students that the classroom is a sacred space where we respect the opportunity for all teachers to teach and all students to learn.  We are looking forward to monitoring how this positively impacts the learning across the College.

We still have a number of students wearing puffer jackets. We need students to wear the correct College uniform jackets.  I have had a number of discussions with students regarding this. This will be a uniform focus in the coming weeks.
