School for Student Leadership

Snowy River Campus

School for Student Leadership.

Term 2 I was lucky enough to be a part of the School for Student  Leadership, Snowy River Campus.

I was one of 44 students from across Victoria that got to spend 8 weeks developing our leadership skill and working goals, mine was to gain more confidence. Most of days were outside taking part in Outdoor Ed type activities such as bridge building, raft making, surfing, mountain bike riding and expeditions. We ran our own expo’s, the teachers were there but they don’t help, we run the whole thing.

We were own little community and all had to take part in chores each day and had to do our own washing. We went to a place called the Spirit Spot each Saturday to reflect on the week and to write our journal, it sat high on hill looking over sand dunes.

We got to see our families once during our stay at Snowy we could email them if we wanted but we were so busy I didn’t really email much at all.

We saw whales, dolphins, snakes and snow. I have made the best friends from different parts of Victoria and I’ll never forget the teachers.    It was one of the best things I have ever done and would go again tomorrow if I was allowed.

At the School for Student Leadership, we learnt about leadership styles and skills such as teamwork, listening, trust, respectful relationships and communication. We also did outdoor activities like surfing, mountain biking, orienteering, bush walks, caving, camping, hiking and raft building. Would recommend that everyone who gets the chance to go, go. Lots of fun and a literal one-in-a-lifetime opportunity here.
