Student Services Newsletter

During this term, you may be experiencing a variety of emotions as you once again adapt to remote learning. We understand that it will be a very challenging time for some of you and your families and we encourage you to reach out to the wellbeing team if you would like some assistance.

The Student Services Team at Scoresby Secondary College is keen to support all families during this difficult period with continued wellbeing services available during school hours.

The available team includes:

  • Ms Casey Lawson (Leader of Student Services, Monday-Friday)
  • Mr Doug Mcdonald (Chaplain, Tuesdays and Wednesdays)
  • Dr Wesley Ko and Nurse Sophia Lee (Eastlink Family Medical Clinic, Monday)
  • Ms Patrice Lewis (Mental Health practitioner, via referral only, Wednesday)

How to Access Wellbeing Support

The best way for you to engage with the support services is to:

  • Send an email to Ms Casey Lawson casey.lawson@education.vic.gov.au  to request a return call or information

The Student Services Team is providing opportunities for students to book video appointments using WebEx, our conferencing portal or to book a phone call.

The Doctors in Secondary Schools (DiSS) program will be operating via telehealth this term on Monday’s between 9am and 4.30pm. Students can access this service from home via telehealth. If you would like to take up this option, please contact Ms Casey Lawson.

 Confidentiality

The Student Services Team adhere to the Department protocols for maintaining privacy and confidentiality. Therefore, when your child speaks to a team member at home, a private location within your home is appropriate. Please ensure that the external volume is not too loud and that the team member is not on speaker.  If you have headphones, it is the best way to ensure that privacy and confidentiality is maintained. Conversations can vary in length from between 10 minutes to one hour.

Due to the current circumstances, Ms Casey Lawson will inform parents / carer via email if a phone call has been made to your child, but not necessarily with the details of the conversation which are between the professional and the student. The Student Services Team member updates the Principal and where appropriate relevant staff about ways the college can support students.

Risk

If a team member feels that your child is not travelling well, you will be contacted to discuss the concerns, offer advice, and explain other supports available.

We thank all members of our college community who have continued to provide positive feedback and support of the work of the Student Services Team at Scoresby Secondary College. We hope that all members of your family remain safe and healthy.

Please feel welcome to reach out to us should you require assistance. Please find a list of Youth mental health services and apps that may be useful during this time.
