Health & PE

The Junior School physical education classes have been keeping active and busy throughout this period of remote learning with our Physical activity daily log class competition.

Students in Years 7 and 8 have been keeping a  tally of their daily activity, recording what is important and useful information as part of a physical activity competition. The competition, which supports the Department of Education and Training and our  priority to get students fit and active,  will determine who will be crowned as the 'most active' during this remote learning period.

Students have been asked to log and record the types of activity they have undertaken, in addition to the minutes and intensity. Data is recorded in a google form, tallied and placed into a weekly leader board.

A full breakdown of the current leader board can be found below:

The following are some student experiences and perspectives on the physical activity challenge and what it has meant for them:

I’ve been recently doing workouts inside my house and walks outside in my area. I have loved to have the chance to have more time for exercise. It’s been helping me feel focused in my other classes, feel happier and less-stressed over school work. I’ve been completing the fitness logs each day to help my classes overall amount of fitness increase, and hopefully contribute to us winning

Shaelah Caruana – Year 8

During this period of remote learning, instead of theory, we've been engaging in physical activity. Personally, I've been going on rides with friends / a friend (depending on restrictions at the time), as well as going on walks and playing soccer outside. It's been great to get out of the house, and I've enjoyed being able to fit in some extra exercise. Having a break from the schoolwork and getting active has helped with concentration, well-being, and mental health. The reason we're logging it every day is because we're having a competition between all the year 7 and 8 home groups, seeing who can be the most active.

Zach Bisset – Year 8

During this lockdown, for PE, the Year 7 and 8 home groups have been competing in a fun competition to see who could stay the most active. We fill out a daily log to keep track on our physical activity. I’ve been walking a lot with my family which I really enjoy because I can clear my mind and when I continue remote learning I can concentrate much better.
