WORD OF THE YEAR 2020

2020 has not only changed our way of life it has changed our way of speaking with new words and phrases coming into common usage.

The Australian National Dictionary Centre has recognised "iso" an abbreviation of the word "isolation" as their word of the year.

Oxford, in lieu of announcing its typical single word of the year, released a report on the "Words of an Unprecedented Year 2020". The report looks at language change and development during 2020 and provides definitions for a range of words that have become common expressions including:

  • Lockdown
  • Unmute
  • Flatten the curve
  • Self isolate
