The Class of ’50 – ’62 in 2018

On November 18, fifteen members of the class of ’50 – ’62 met for lunch at Kilbreda. As always there was much conversation and laughter. As I have said previously we all appreciate the College facilities being made available for these occasions and thank the Leadership of Kilbreda for this. We are also very appreciative of Denise Leonard’s work in organising the catering, preparing the venue and presenting the appetising food. As Denise is a member of our group we have known her talents for many years and as usual were in awe of the ease in which she organised not only the meal but a presentation of one of our classmate’s artwork.

Pat Hayes (nee Andrew) is a much-loved member of our class group. When we were at school she was fun-loving, interested in all of us and the various learning activities we shared. We knew Pat particularly enjoyed art class and that she was talented in that area. Her artwork we viewed at our luncheon proved she developed that talent well beyond her years at school. The pieces we saw were extremely varied and ranged from humorous memories of childhood, through scenes from her travels to floral arrangements. Everyone commented on the design and colour of each piece. The extent of her work can only be comprehended through viewing as textual description does not suffice.

Pat’s paintings not only gave us much enjoyment of art but also gave rise to humorous memories from our own childhood. We also reflected on our own memories of art class and for many of us, myself included, this reflection revealed a decided lack of talent in that area. Thus Pat’s paintings brought her into our midst in a different way. Living in Western Australia means she finds it difficult to be with us in person as often as she would like.

(An article on artist Pat Hayes nee Andrew appears in this issue of Tower Talk.)

As I have said before we all thoroughly enjoy each other’s company when we gather for lunch. The dominant feeling about the times we spend together every six months is that we have FUN! November 17th, 2018 was no exception.

We hope there will be many more years of meeting as a class group and are always looking for others to join us. Finding classmates is not easy as almost all of us relinquished our maiden names when married. Perhaps someone will read this and realise they are part of our group. If so, all they have to do is contact Denise Leonard; her contact details are here on Tower Talk.
