AFL Girls Gala Day

On Friday the 28th of April, we had two teams represent Kalinda Primary School at the Maroondah/Manningham Division, Girls AFL Gala Day.

The girls had a really great day, they played three competitive AFL matches, which for a lot of our girls was a first-time experience, and very different from what they were used to playing. The girls enjoyed the tackling aspect of the game and developed their skills immensely throughout the day.

Over lunch, there was a special guest speaker - Keeley Sherrar who plays in the AFLW competition for Carlton Football Club. Keeley shared her sporting journey and spent time answering student questions.

A big thank-you to Norwood Football Club for donating their footy jersey for our girls to wear and thank you to all parents who assisted and showed your support on the day.

House Cross Country

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Kalinda House Cross Country.

Running a long-distance race is challenging, and we were so proud of everyone’s efforts and determination to push themselves to their absolute best.

Completing the race is an achievement in itself, regardless of what place you finish – so well done to everyone involved.

The Foundation students kicked off the day, racing first. They ran two laps of the oval and were assisted by the Grade 5/6 students, who formed a circle around the oval to cheer them on as they completed their first-ever cross country.

Following on from here, the other grades and year groups completed their cross country around the 1km course. The Grade 1 & 2 students completed 1 lap of the course, the 9/10-year-olds completed 2 laps and the 11-year-olds and 12/13-year-olds completed 3 laps of the course. All students run exceptionally well, and it was fantastic to see such great team spirit where students were supporting and encouraging one another.

On the day students were awarded house points for completing their race and additional house points were awarded to those who finished in the top 12.

1st Place – McCubbin House on 7040 points

2nd place – Parkes House on 5800 points

3rd place – Chisholm House on 5720 points

4th place – Melba House on 5200 points

Well done to all the house teams, and a massive congratulations to those in McCubbin House, who won the Kalinda Cross Country for the third consecutive year.

A special congratulations to those students who finished in the top 12. The students who finished in the top 10 for the following age groups; 9/10-year-olds, 11-year-olds, and 12 & 13-year-olds will be invited to compete at the next level of competition - District, and 11th and 12th place will be listed as emergencies.

Further information regarding this will be sent out on Compass. Please check your child's Event section on Compass if they qualified.

We wish these students all the best with their preparations in the lead-up to this event.

Thank you to all the staff for your help and support, and thank you to all the parents and grandparents who volunteered to assist! Thank you for guiding the students in the right direction and providing them with lots of encouragement.

These events cannot run successfully without the help of the Kalinda community, so again, thank you for your time!
