ThinkUKnow cyber safety and security presentation

We invite any interested parents, carers and staff in your community to attend a ThinkUKnow presentation on Wednesday 23 August from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at Bendigo Church of Christ

ThinkUKnow Australia is an evidence-based education program delivered nationally to prevent online child sexual exploitation.

ThinkUKnow Australia is a partnership between the Australian Federal Police, Microsoft Australia, Datacom and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. The program is delivered in collaboration with policing partners New South Wales Police Force, Northern Territory Police, Queensland Police, South Australia Police, Tasmania Police, Western Australia Police, as well as Neighbourhood Watch Australasia.

The presentation will be delivered by a local law enforcement member and an industry volunteer. The presentation is pro-technology and addresses topics including self-generated child abuse material, online grooming and sexual extortion, encouraging help-seeking behaviour. It is not appropriate for children to attend.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn more about young people and the online environment, and how you can help them to be safe and responsible users of technology.

For more information, visit www.thinkuknow.org.au.

YMCA Youth Program Update

YGames

Ygames is free and open to students aged between 11 and 16 on Wednesdays from 4pm to 5pm at the Peter Krenz Leisure Centre in Eaglehawk. Participants play different games in a friendly environment and are encouraged to have fun while getting active regardless of their ability.

Film-making program

The film-making program is all about giving young people the opportunity to learn about the many aspects of film-making, designed around getting the best out of our digital devices. The program is open to young people 10 years old and upwards and will run on Fridays from 4pm to 5.30pm at the Peter Krenz Leisure Centre in Eaglehawk. The program re-launches Friday 11 August and will run for five weeks.

Stories to Action: free youth environmental video program

YMCA Victoria Youth Services in Bendigo has partnered with Bendigo Sustainability Group and Headspace Bendigo to offer a fantastic new program called ‘Stories to Action’. The YMCA is seeking young people aged 12 to 25 who are interested in using creativity to help inspire a more sustainable world. The Stories to Action program will support you to create your own videos or workshops about sustainability. It's a great opportunity to have fun while getting skills or a certificate, and meeting others who care and make a difference. You can be involved as a co-designer and/or video producer. Applications are assessed as they come in, so get in quick. Applications for co-designers are due by Sunday 13 August and applications for participants are due by Monday 28 August. For more information, see the application form or Facebook event

Lunchtime programs

I currently have spaces in my diary to run lunchtime activities in schools. The games usually run in school stadiums and can include activities like dodgeball, social basketball or mixed ball games. I can also run activities like music trivia if requested. Please get in touch if you would like more information.

Of course parents are welcome to contact me on 0448 753 936 should they like any additional information.
