Mark Alabakov and the Lady Braves into the NBL 1 South Grand Final
Congratulations to the Bendigo Lady Braves and their Head Coach Mark Alabakov who will be taking on the Waverley Falcons in the NBL 1 South Grand Final this Saturday 12 August!
Mark works with our Girton Basketball Club in coaching both junior and senior basketball, and is also involved with training and development, supporting our coaching staff and the representative sport selection process.
We are very grateful to have Mark as such an integral part of our school basketball club and we wish him and the Lady Braves the best of luck in the decider!
ICCES Cross Country
Tuesday 25 July saw 19 keen runners head down to Bundoora Park to compete in the ICCES Cross Country competition. Our students went head-to-head against some of regional Victoria’s best athletes and had a great day out, many surprising themselves with PB times and others just happy to have completed the tough, hilly course.
We had many great results and ended the day with a first placing from Abbey Reid, and an overall first placing in the Intermediate Girls (Year 9/10) Teams division. The team consisted of the following runners:
- Abbey Reid (9 Jenkin)
- Imogen Stewart (9 Aherne)
- Isabella Bowles (9 Jenkin)
- Zoe Dean (9 Jenkin)
- Freya Nicoletti (10 Millward)
Well done to all our students on a great day and for representing our school with pride. Thank you to Ms Eenjes, Mrs Buckeridge and Mr Norris for supporting the team on the day.
SSV State Cross Country Championships
During the school holidays, a group of students gave up a day of leisure to compete at the SSV State Cross Country Championships after qualifying at the Loddon Mallee Regional stage. We would like to thank and congratulate our students for giving up their time to represent the school and compete at this stage, and a special thank you to all the families involved for taking your children down to Melbourne for this event.
We need to extend a big congratulations to Abbey Reid (9 Jenkin) on her recent performances at the SSV State Cross Country Championships and the Athletics Victoria All Schools Cross Country Championships.
At the School Sport Victoria State Cross Country Final, Abbey ran an incredibly quick 3km race in a time of 12:04.63, winning by almost a whole minute!
The following week, Abbey placed third in an extremely tight Under 16 Girls 4km All Schools race, which guarantees her a place on the Victorian Cross Country Team. Abbey will now represent Victoria at the Australian Cross Country Championships in Canberra on 26 August.
We wish Abbey all the best for this competition and know that you will do Girton proud.
