Sportswomen of the Week
Olivia Tubb
This week we recognise the achievements of Year 9 student, Olivia Tubb. Olivia has just taken up speed skating as a sport, taking part in her second competition, the Dennis Harris Cup, last week. She received eight gold from eight races. Her first competition, a month ago, saw her win all four of her races.
Chloe Joughin
Chloe recently came first in the Vic Metro Long Course Meet in the U14 200m Freestyle relay.
She has qualified to compete at the 2019 Hancock Prospecting Age National Championships in Adelaide over Easter. Chloe has qualified for the 50 m freestyle with a qualifying time of 28.54 sec.
We wish Chloe well in the Easter competition.
Kilbreda House Swimming Carnival
On 6 March, the College held it's annual Swimming Carnival. Although the day was very cold and a little rain interrupted our events, we managed to get through most of the races and the day was an overall success.
We had an overwhelming number of students participate across the board and everyone had a fantastic day! It was a great day for new students, staff and Year 7s to experience Kilbreda pride and sense of community, as well as a great last swimming day for Year 12s.
This year we were lucky enough to have additional land activities, running for everyone to participate in while waiting for their next race. These consisted of beach volleyball and Kilbreda’s famous year level novelty activities. Some of the day’s highlights were the fastest swimmers race and the traditional students vs teachers relay race that resulted in a triumphant win by the student team.
After a lot of hard work, involvement and house spirit, Delany were the overall winners on the day. All the teams put up an amazing effort with Brigid coming second, Kildare coming third and Tullow placing fourth.
A lot of work and preparation had gone in to making this day as fun and successful as possible. We would like to give an immense thank you to teachers, staff, students and special guests for making the 2019 Swimming Carnival the best one yet!
Final Scores
Delany - 781
Brigid - 609
Kildare - 516
Tullow - 422

SCSA Indoor Cricket
It was an early start for the annual SCSA Indoor Cricket Competition with teams meeting at school at 7am. We arrived at the Box Hill Indoor Cricket Centre with plenty of time to warm up the shoulders and get the eye in with the bat.
We played three other schools, Mercy, Ave Maria and our arch rivals, Killester. The Seniors had mixed results with 2 wins and 2 losses. Highlights were accuracy and fast bowling from Kate Ebert and Ella McLaughlin and quick hands in the field by Mia Canestra. The girls made the Grand final against Mercy and despite having their best game of the day lost a close match 68-62.
The Intermediates had amazing results and were undefeated all day, with outstanding bowling from our Australian representative Erin Carroll and big hitting by Ollie Cooper. The team went on to win the Grand Final against Ave Maria 55-14. Congratulations to Erin who was voted Best Player in the Grand Final.
The Juniors' performance was dominated by big hitting and accurate bowling and at the end of the round robin only lost one game and made the Grand Final against Mercy. It was a tough game and the Juniors won 49-41. Special mention to Penni Brown who was voted Best Player in the Grand Final.

SESG Sport
The SESG Sport program starts next term. The South Eastern Sport for Girls program is for Terms 2,3 and 4. We compete against OLSH (Our Lady of Sacred Heart) Bentleigh, SHGC (Sacred Heart Girls College) Oakleigh and Killester (Springvale).
Due to renovation works at Oakleigh Recreation Centre the SESG Sport Program will take place at Monash University. The Intermediate teams (Year 9 and 10) will play on Tuesdays and the Junior Teams (Year 7 and 8) will play on a Thursday.
The girls will leave school at 1.45pm as most of the games will be early games. They are expected back at Kilbreda by 4.30pm. Please see attached the draw for Term 2.
The sports are Basketball, Badminton and Futsal. Trials for these sports started last week and will continue over the next few weeks of Term 1. We would like you to encourage your daughters to try out for these teams. They are a great way to meet new friends, try new sports and compete in a friendly atmosphere against fellow Brigidine Schools.
If you have any questions about the SESG program then please email me: maree.clark@kilbreda.vic.edu.au
