Works have finally commenced on the oval and the base works are well under way. We are looking forward to seeing the synthetic turf laid in the coming weeks. It is anticipated that the project will be completed in about six weeks time. While we are very appreciative of the rain, it is slowing up works. We are hopeful that this will not delay works. Rock dust is now being laid and, depending on the weather, we should see turf being laid within the next week.
We are extremely grateful for our Pick My Project grant of $197,000.00 which completely covers the costs of the oval with around $5,000.00 left in our contingency fund. We would like to ensure that the surrounding areas are also completed to an equally high standard. We would like to include AFL and Soccer Goal Posts, a 5m cyclone wire screen to keep balls from going over the neighbours fence, seating and picnic tables to enhance the space and a replacement retaining wall on the Senior School Playground.
Our School Advisory Council and Parents Association, who collaborated in getting this amazing project off the ground are once again joining forces to raise funds to ensure it is finished beautifully. In the coming days you will be receiving a flyer advertising a fundraising activity which it is hoped will raise funds to contribute to the upgrading of this area. The Parents Association have also agreed to contribute funds raised from other activities this year to contribute to this major infrastructure development.
The SFX Art Show has been scheduled for Wednesday 4 (3:45 - 5:00) and Thursday 5 (6:00 - 8:00) September. We will have multiple exhibition in a variety of locations around the school, both inside and outside the building. There will be an auction held on the Thursday evening for an artwork created by each class. The proceeds of this auction will go towards covering the significant costs of the event. Any surplus funds will contribute towards the Oval Project.
The appointment of the new Principal of St Francis Xavier School is drawing nearer. Applications closed on Monday and they are currently being reviewed by Catholic Education Melbourne prior to being forwarded to Fr Michael and the panel for short listing. This will happen at our next meeting on Friday 2 August. Interviews will follow shortly afterwards. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will take up the position of Principal at the commencement of Term Four, proving an opportunity to settle in and gague the lie of the land. I will be departing St Francis Xavier on Thursday 5 September and will be taking a break with my family prior to commencing my Principalship of St Josephs in early November. Adriana Bownds, supported by the School Development Team, will be looking after the school for the final two week of Term Three. I know I leave the school in excellent care with Adriana and the team and I trust that they will experience the same high level of support I have received from the staff, students and parents.
Kind regards,
Nicholas Boyhan
